How to Stay Motivated in Direct Sales
Life is not what happened in the past – that is history. Life is what is happening right now.
What do you want that life of yours to look like? Do you know? Have you thought about it? I mean REALLY thought about it?
Here’s something I have learned in my life and I really want you to remember – it’s okay to mess up and make mistakes. You can always start over again. Every day, you can begin again.
Winners are the ones who pick themselves up, brush off and keep on running for that goal.
People have asked me, just like I asked many people in the beginning – What is your secret? What can you share with me that will get me to the same success level as you? How to stay motivated in Direct Sales?
Really, it’s simple. There are a few business rules that I live and die by. It is my belief that if you will follow these business rules, you can not help but be a success.
Commit to self development and learning. Always be reading some type of book on self development and improving yourself.
Refuse to get discouraged and especially do not let others discourage you. If you must take a 15 minute pity party, fine, but then pick yourself back up and put on a smile.
Meet, greet and delete your fears. Take it out, talk to it, laugh and brush it off. Find that “feel good” feeling.
Be coachable – great ideas are out there everywhere. Be willing to ask, listen and learn
Attend company functions so you can know the heart and soul of the business, management and the leaders. This will help you develop more quickly.
Seek out others who want what you have to share and let go of those who do not.
Have a filter question to keep you on track.
That is it. Everything else can be done in different ways. You might build through parties, running ads, fundraisers, online, or whatever. You don’t have to build in the same way as your upline and sponsor. Find your way and commit to it 100%.
Here are some action steps you can take –
Decide to become a student – here is a news flash. You don’t know everything there is about building a successful business in Direct Sales and Network Marketing.
I don’t either. That’s a relief to me because I know that every day is a day that I can learn and experience more through the successes of others.
I don’t know where you come from in your past. And, it really doesn’t matter. We are all here to support and cheer each other on the great success. Uncross your arms, unplug your ears and become a student to everyone who offers wisdom about this business. You may pick your favorites.
Know what determines your happiness and your success – Is it the weather? A new car? Other people? What people think of you? What has happened to you in the past? Your current relationship?
NO! YOU determine whether or not you are going to choose happiness.
That’s right, here’s another newsflash – happiness is a CHOICE!
Don’t make excuses for why your business is not growing that reflect on anyone but you. Start today to choose happiness, start your day reading 10 minutes from a positive, uplifting book, and then do SOMETHING in your business. I always feel happier when I have accomplished something in my business besides reading email.
Just like happiness is a choice, so is success. And, it all starts with your belief about your outcome. The more time you spend reading and growing your self through positive, self development books, the higher your belief will be. When you catch yourself thinking in a downbeat way – STOP! Force yourself to CHOOSE to think about other, happier things.
Know your outcome – What is it EXACTLY that you are trying to accomplish? What are your goals? Your dreams? Your intentions? Okay, great, now what steps will that require from you to make it happen.
Here’s a clue – the people who reach the top are the ones who focus on exactly what they DO want and not what they DO NOT want. Which are you?
Focus on taking action steps and getting a tiny bit better everyday. Get better and better and know that you are often bad before you are good, and good before you are GREAT! Step by step, tell yourself – Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better.
Some people earn $25,000 a year for doing a certain thing. Still, there are others earning $250,000 a year. Are they any better? Smarter? Better looking? I’m guessing the difference is in what the top income earner EXPECTS and BELIEVES he or she should be paid.
Quit dabbling. Pretend like it is now or never.
Stop saying – Maybe I’ll do it in 6 Months.
Start saying – I’m going to do it TODAY. And then DO IT! Have a sense of urgency about your business and your success. As Yoda said in Star Wars – “Luke, there is only do, or do not – there is no try.”
Also, please do not compare yourself to anyone else. This is not a competition and I promise you, in everything you do, there will be people – better looking, more fit, tanner, smarter, taller, shorter, better educated, and on and on. There will also be people who are less of all of those things. SO WHAT! You are a gift and a classic and there is only one of you. If you MUST compete, compete with yourself week after week, day after day.
Be prepared to change – Along with success comes change, of some degree. Be prepared for this and do NOT fear it. Think of all of the things that have changed since you have been alive.
Make a commitment to yourself to do one thing which seems beyond your present ability or comfort level. Make a public commitment so that it is out there and you’ll be more inclined to see it through.
Adopt the 5 simple steps for Success –
Get into Network Marketing. There will be a day when it gets into you and these are not always (and rarely are) on the same day. When Network Marketing gets into you, you will be the success that you can and deserve to be.
Use the products – KNOW your product inside and out.
Recruit People – this is not difficult. You only need 5 or ten active distributors to begin reaching long lasting residual income.
Attend all company meetings and functions – this is a very serious statement. You must associate with like minded people who share your same goals and enthusiasm. Get yourself around people willing to teach you what they have done and how they have done it.
Have fun – this is mandatory. Who wants to join a stuffy, boring business? Not me! I want to be where the fun people are and with the fun people making money. Make your business fun and not stressful. Don’t make it seem like work but make it something you LOVE!
Find out what your purpose is in this business. Find out what your purpose is as a leader.
For me, personally, I love sharing the message of creating your own experience and abundance in this lifetime.
Focus only on success results. Learn from any perceived non successful ventures.
Pay attention to where you are focusing. Pay attention to the thoughts you think and the words you speak.
Pay attention to what follows – I AM –
I Am tired, I AM Mad, I am not as good as others, I am not capable of making this work.
Yuck, what a downer. Does this sound better –
I may have had a slow start, but I am capable of doing this and going it in a great way.
I may be tired, but I am going to make 2 more phone calls.
I may have gotten mad, but I am going to say I am sorry and lift that person up.
I am as good as anyone else and worthy of the success I want.
Copy things that work for others. Your business will grow much faster when others can see and feel all of the fun you are having.
And, you’ll always work harder when you are having fun.
Develop, understand and maintain an attitude that propels you forward into growing an organization that you can manage and lead.
Find those things that you do best and concentrate there.
Quit needing approval from those people in your life who will not give it to you. In your home, just set a goal to prove them wrong.
In your company – don’t worry about their approval. Grow your check and approve of yourself!
Do not settle for less than you can be.
Here are some things you need to have –
Have personal written goals and review them EVERY day
Set a personal example in what you say, how you say it, where you say it, etc.
Concentrate on the opportunity
Be positive and do not allow any negative to slow you down or influence your thinking
Teach others what you know
Spend a minimum of 50 hours a month building yourself a future and a lifestyle
Make at least a one year commitment, with action steps in place
Commit to CANI – Constant and Never Ending Improvement
Persist until you succeed. You can’t succeed if you quit
Get committed, stay committed and go for it!
