Today’s Network Marketing question is….
How do I make the most of a networking event. I attend, meet a few people and then what do I do from there?
- Be prepared
- Smile and be friendly and outgoing
- Dress like a pro
- Know your Elevator Pitch
- Don’t carry business cards
- COLLECT business cards
- Know what to say when they ask – What do you do?
Most people who attend these events are small business owners, they are motivated, often commission based and looking for more, typically. They understand investing in a business, hustling and so on. That is what these can be a great event.
Understand what YOUR goal is – it is NOT to sell your products or opportunity at the event. Your goal is simple to connect and make an impression. You can do this BEST by being a good listener.
The less you say about what you do and the more you let them tell you about what they do, the better.
Your goal is to collect business cards because you WILL follow up. Most people never do.
How to handle the question – what is it you do? Most people are barely listening anyway, so what you say is not so important. Resist the urge to pitch. Build a connection without raising resistance. Most people try to get catchy – I help people make money from home. What will you say if they ask – HOW?
I’m a teacher but I am working on starting a side business project. End it there and ask them something else about what they do.
Your real strength is when you follow up with them over the next few days.
So, what do you say when you call to follow up? Use the third party approach and set a time to get together. Don’t go into it right there on the phone.
