Please help me welcome my amazing panel, Tom Chenault 26 years in the profession, from Colorado. Ann Feinstein, 26 years in the profession, from Pennsylvania; Julie Hansberry, 6 years in the profession calling in from Hong Hong; David Frey, 10 years in the profession from Houston, Tx, Lynn Huber, 13 years in the profession from Salt Lake city, UT, and Art Burleigh, 26 years from Chatsworth, CA.
We are honored to have these amazing leaders here to share some insights as to how events have helped them professionally as they grow their teams, and personally, as well.
Network Marketing Events are the backbone of our profession and while we know the business is built in homes, small meetings, on personal and Skype calls all across the globe, we also know that belief is built and lives are changed at events.
Network Marketing Events provide Social Proof.
So, I have asked each of our guest to share a little of the following with you:
Their length of time in the profession.
When they attended their first event and what got them there.
What they experienced at that first event.
How they promote events among their team.
What all they have learned and experienced in the years that have followed.
And, you’ll notice attendance at different types of events.
Tom Chenault
First event was a huge Eric Worre event in Phoenix. He was brand new and over 12,000 people were there, which blew him away and more importantly, he wasted to know how the people got in the front row. Committed to make that happen for him!
In 17 years with his company, he has never missed an event. He knew he wanted to build a big business.
A big shift happened when he attended a Mastermind Event and was blown away by the size of the checks of those on stage, but also in the audience. And, he knew that if he didm;t attend events, he would lose.
2014, he is attending the MLM cruise, ANMP, Eric Worre, Mastermind and his company events.
He know those are the missing links holding him back from reaching the next levels, the pinnacle levels.
He sees people doing the same things, different things.
The levee of dedication and circle of influence in Network Marketing is in those rooms. He is always learning how to get where he wants to go next.
He takes team, loads them up and drives them!
Events are duplicable at the lowest common denominator. He asks people, looking them right in the eye – are you going to the next event. That tells him who’s ready and who’s not.
Keith Halls says – For every person who comes to an event can generate 400 on the team the following year! Keith knows his stuff.
You never learn it all. New technology, new methods, new people to rub shoulders with and lessons on where we might be breaking down on the fundamentals. See what you are good at and what you can improve on.
Events are the most important part of your business!
Question- would you team attend if you didn’t?
Tom: I don’t have the right to ask them to attend if I am not attending. Too busy, too that – that dog won’t hunt!
Ann Feinstein
Recently awarded the leadership award at her company event.
Her sponsor pressed them to take a day off from work and attend a regional event with corporate executives flying out to Long Island. So, they listened and attended, looking forward to meeting the company leadership.
Everything changed that weekend. Their vision was set. No more sitting back. They committed to the business and the Ladder of Escalation.
Belief is set, see successes, vision and growth of the company. This is just at regional events and then National events happen.
Vision is set, strategies for the year, company position and then comes the global event and the amazing stories of people coming from different cultures and challenges, and seeing what else is out there.
The teams traveling together, the fun experiences and the bonding.
It’s social media with pictures being shared and posted and celebrated.
Recognition, hearing the stories and testimonials. Most importantly they get the global perspective of what the company has to offer and they see the leadership and we get to spend time with them, bonding, eating together, and they’ve traveled long distances.
We set plans in motion, and while we travel quite a bit, nationally and globally and so fun to get a new perspective on the challenges in other countries and also see the successes/.
Ladder of escalation – social proof and vision it gives people. Keeps the fire going.
Always be the first to get registered and then share why it is important and why they can’t afford to miss it. It can stunt your growth by 6 months by missing an event! Teams need to see you there; feel your leadership and know you are part of the mission.
Need to feel that everyone is coming together and experience the culture of events.
Always be promoting to the next event.
Personally, the MLM mastermind event really was a great event. Gave her a new perspective and the chance to rub shoulders with top leaders from other companies and learning what they are teaching and practices that are working. Taking notes. Handling challenges and looking at how they are growing to the next level.
Event culture is important to growth and duplication.
Julie Hansberry
Julie’s husband is a corporate guy, on top of one of those pyramids, as she likes to say and that has made their life about travel. Thishas made it hard for Julie to hold a job as they move around a lot.
Upon return from a country, she was looking to go back to work, and realized that the corporate world was not going to fit.
Was introduced to network marketing and fell in love with what she saw.
She attended first event, kicking and screaming – didn’t need rah rah, didn’t need motivation to get to work. Her upline kept saying “you must go, must go, I can’t explain or put into words but you have to be there.”
So, she took a leap of faith and went.
It was an International convention, largest to date and she was blown away. Her level of belief in the profession grew by leaps and bounds.
Meeting people from all over the world and all walks of life, all backgrounds was an eye opener and she got to see that people who hadn’t finished college, to those highly educated – it was an equal opportunity for anyone who wanted to get to work.
Events build belief in company but also in the profession. Re-education is vital in any profession and she sees events as continuing education; sharpening the saw and fine tuning the way she does business. Improving all of the time.
In our profession, there are more and more great generic events this year.
Helps keep the tool box up to date, intact, motivated – rubbing shoulders with those in other companies and learn what’s working; what challenges.
We face doubts, and people saying no, and sometimes one can wonder of it’s for real and works, and then you go to an event, refill the gas tank and in a room, or arena or hotel with all kinds of like minded people who share your goals. You can’t survive without that energy.
Darren Hardy, one and one half years into business and it was a turning point. If you don’t attend events, you never have those turning points. You don’t get that in the day to day – the turning points.
If your upline is telling you to go, and you are thinking you don’t need it – trust them – you DO need it. Put it on the calendar and figure out how to make it happen. Ask for help to make it happen.
David Frey
He didn’t even realize he was joining the network marketing profession and a network marketing company. He saw a product he needed and he said – Sign Me Up!
He needed the product in his marketing business. He used it for about 6 months and then called his sponsor to see how he could make money.
Without knowing what he was doing, he sponsored over 120 people his first weekend through his marketing business and online email list. Smaller checks got bigger and bigger.
His company called him and invited him to convention because they had awards for him.
He was skeptical, thinking it was a MLM convention and not really something he would be interested, all hypey and rah rah! But, he has a sister and brother in the same city and so he agreed to go, reluctantly.
Sat down in the back with his arms fold and by the middle of the day, he was standing on a char, whooping it up and arms in the air!
After that, he turned on the heat and became one of the top income earners in his company.
You surround yourself with like minded people. They are excited about the same things.
Live events BUILD belief. Without belief, you won’t last in the business,
Each event shares testimonials of the products and also the opportunity. And, in the company itself.
You’ll get a vision of where the company is headed and develop a belief, which is critical to success.
Belief in the marketing system is critical so that you believe that you can do it, too!
Belief in the movement itself, and you can feel the energy in the room – the leaders, the team, the ownership, management – you want to be part of that!
Belief in the network marketing compensation plan when you see people walk across the stage and you see people making money, and you know that you can, too!
Belief that YOU can do it when you see others cross the stage and you know that if THEY can do it, you can do it, too.
Get yourself there, get others there and it will build your business faster than anything else ever can.
If you can get your team to a national convention, it will do more to build your business than 6 months working one on one with that person.
You must attend, and get others to attend!
Lynn Huber
Wasn’t looking for business, but within 16 months of joining one, paid cash for car.
500-600 people at first event, regional. They were in awe and looked at people who had huge success and thought – we can do WAY better than that.
That was it, they were hooked and got the bug. Had not done any recruiting prior to that, only retail sales.
Worked hard to get others to events, contests, car pools and all of that.
Social proof and validate decision to join. As humans we are often wired to seek approval and feel like we did the right thing,
you learn how people have overcome their won fears and gone to the top – you begin to think – you can do it too.
It can be discouraging if you lack support of your family and then you attend and event and are surround ed by people who have big dreams and goals.
We work from home largely alone, we motivate ourselves and set our own schedule. And being around others offers great proof.
We always attend company and also 3-4 generic events. These are a few of the events we have attended:
Association of Network Marketing Professionals
Eric Worre Recruiting Mastery
And some smaller events: Real Savvy Success, and smaller Randy Gage events.
Smaller events can be even better because they are smaller, more intimate and leave more time and room to connect.
Here is something to think about – the people who attend events are the top people in their companies, Movers and shakers attend events.
7 Figure Income earners!
Build relationships with top income earners and become friends. Top income earners – they think differently. They spend time on how to overcome a problem and don’t focus on the problem. It will rub off on you and you begin to be the same way. You think differently and your expectations are raised.
they’ve done it – gone to the top, and you say – why wouldn’t I get there?
We’ve made some amazing life long friends from events. Friends from the UK, invited us to travel to France to attend an anniversary party of friends.
Tina Beer is another good friend we have gained through events!
The friendships are the icing on the cake. Vacation with friends and have a write off.
Don’t overlook the importance of team meetings and local events. Sometimes they are small, but they keep people connected and create ongoing growth.
You never know what will happen at an event – the right thing at just the right time.
Learn how others are working their network marketing business. Someone asks you a questions and it just hits you the right way and a light bulb goes off!
Be sure to Network with others outside of the event speakers.
Jackie: success in network marketing is the transferring of belief!
Art Burleigh
In the Network Marketing profession for 27 years!
Attended first event 10 days after enrolling, fall of 1988.
It was a regional vent in Riverside, California. His upline said “you gotta go”, so they loaded up in the van and went. 4-5 hours, and REAL eye opener. Social validation for the whole experience and profession, builds belief, learn from other, more experience.
You learn about the products and company belief, corporate culture, mistakes to avoid. A whole menu of great things to learn.
Wow – he and his wife Marlyn have attended well over 60 events – company events; Leadership cruises in the Carribean; speaker events, copy writing, Women’s events, prosperity events, etc.
People have asked – why do you go to women’s events? Because I am smart and 80% of the profession are women. Know how to work with and be led by them. Richard Brooke Vision, Big Al, Tom Schreiter and more.
We’ve attended closed door, VIP events. All eye opening! And, company events with over 25,000 people there.
Social validation and the learning from others is so important.
Leader’s attend events! It’s the investment that you make in the quality of your future and YOURSELF!
Events help us create the attitude of investing in productive actions; new communications skills! Tony Robbins said at a recent event – “Belief propels certainty, which is the holy grail between someone taking action or not. When someone takes action, they get results!”
The more actions, the more the team is inspired and more success producing actions overcome uncertainty! Good for the growth of the team you want to lead!
Events empower even the newest person!
They get inspired and sometimes they even get angry as they see someone show up at the local meeting who they did not introduce to the business! Ouch!
Take smarter actions! See others walk across the stage, from all walks of life – fireman, attorneys, housewives, military, plumbers, accountants and on and on!
Tom Chenault – this call was an event. I learned so much and I am more invigorated than ever to attend my next event!
Ann Feinstein – Invest in yourself; had a new distributor there and he said, after an event – I am tired of being a witness, watching network marketing pros walk across the stage. I’m ready for it to be me. He heard a story from a top earner, and he looked around and wanted to be at the special table!
Julie Hansberry – are you going to be a witness, spectator? If you don’t attend, you will always be playing catch up, trying to figure out what you missed. Don’t settle for scraps. Be in the front row!
Lynn Huber – Amazing call – live streaming is something available today, and it’s cool. But you gotta be at the real ting, sitting up front!
Art Burleigh – get there early, sit up front, get your psyche together. Destination events allow you to experience the world, tax free. It;s homework for a meaningful life! Tax deductible! Network with people in the room! You learn how special or good you have it!
Some people attend and leave the flyers on the seats; leaders take those and use them!
Thanks to our great panel of experts!

Then, every week up to the event, promote this to your team and encourage them to get there. LEADERS attend events.
