Finding Prospects For Your Network Marketing Business
Is this process stumping you just a little? This is part 1 of a 2 part series on finding prospects for your business. There is never any reason to run out of people to talk to.
In this podcast, we are going to cover Warm Market; referrals, life styling and offline, face to face ways of finding people to talk to.
In next week’s, we’ll cover cold market, ads and leads. You can access that show here!
Here’s the Question of the Week – “My biggest challenge is finding people outside of my area, which is one of the poorest in the state and I keep hearing – I have no money.”
This is a question I hear quite a bit, and I have to say – it’s a mind set on OUR part when we experience this. Listen in to the Podcast for my answer.
When you think about it – people are EVERYWHERE – online , offline, next door, down the street, downtown, uptown – you name it. There is no shortage of people to talk to.
There may be a shortage of who YOU are willing to talk to, however.
Learn to listen with your problem solving ears. This is a learned skill and something that we are often not used to when we get started.
People are dealing with:
Job Loss, caregiving and aging parent issues, childcare, housing crisis, rising costs, slumping salaries, college costs, and more. Gen Y is a huge target right now as they deal with college debt and no jobs. Mary Kay reported 36% of new reps are Gen Y, largely college students. It’s a niche market.
Niche markets are a great way to go, in fact. And, it’s often best to choose a market you KNOW. For instance, I focused on Moms. I probably should have focused on the airline profession, as that’s my background and a real changing/struggling industry. Never too late.
What profession do you know well? It’s good when you can speak the language. Or, find people on your team who are in a niche market. Think – Real Estate, Mortgage Brokers, Car Sales, Estheticians, Hair Dressers and personal trainers. Just some ideas. Don’t get overly focused here, though and miss other opportunities.
There are only two types of people you will ever talk to or contact about your MLM.
1) People that you know (your warm market)
2) People that you don’t know (the cold market)
This may seem overly simplified, but from a marketing perspective this is 100% accurate.
And, the sooner that you and your entire organization become a MASTER of each technique the larger your check will be!
Depending on your circle of influence, you may want or need to develop a business plan of doing a little of each to build a balanced, growing, successful business.

Warm Market – Please, please don’t disregard your warm market. Just learn the skills to work with them effectively. Here is my mantra about it – Relax, Have Fun, Detach from the outcome! Your JOB is to notify and stay in touch. That’s it. The more people you notify and keep in touch with, the faster your business will grow.
You’ll learn some ideas and scripting on how to contact your list and be effective!
Lifestyling – We all meet people all of the time. Waiters, service staff, sales clerks at retail outlets, cleaners, grocery, post office, etc. Know how to introduce your business quickly and contact later.
We also meet people at other events such as –
Kids sporting and activities
Church
Social Events and Parties
Set a goal to meet people and LISTEN for form.
Networking Business Groups – remember that this is based on the concept of referrals, not everyone there necessarily joining you. Keep in mind the concept of 7-9 times exposure.
People need to get to know you. Don’t blow in one week, never to return again. That is a turn off.
How to Move From the Product to the Business – Always make sure they are aware of both.
ASK FOR REFERRALS. Describe who is a good fit for you.
Meetup and Social Groups – I joined several that are social to expand my warm market. Brunch, Happy Hour, Hiking, Yoga and other social things.
Book Recommendation of the Week – Were you mesmerized when you first saw the infamous – Circles drawn on a white board? You go so excited, you signed up, right? Then, you’ve spent the time ever since wondering how to REALLY create duplication in your organization? Sound familiar?
In his book, Making the First Circle Work, Randy Gage shows you the difference between what you really control and what you can only influence. Kind of like the question of “motivating the team.”
You’ll also learn how to create the culture that causes true duplication.
This is a short, simple read, but it is power packed.
