Old School, New School – Should You Make a List and Contact Them?
As the Internet sprang to life in the early 2000s, a lot of focus was shifted from the traditional methods of getting started in Network Marketing, and specifically away from the long taught tradition of “making your warm market list.” So, has the Internet replaced this? Is Social Media Marketing the new answer?
Should you ignore a concept that has launched many multi million dollar businesses in Network Marketing?
I am often approached by prospects from the internet who say to me – “I want to build my business just like you do.” And, that’s great, I’m always willing to teach my system, however, my system starts back in 1994, when I first started my Network Marketing career. And, each step I have taken since then has developed those critical business skills needed to be successful in our profession.
Here is my story –

What steps have you taken in building your business? Are you using both offline and online techniques?

Thanks for your feedback Janette.
As the internet continues to grow, one definitely wants to have a presence online, especially once they move from warm market. When working in the cold market with advertising or leads, some people will go searching online. You want to be in a position to be “found!”

The warm market does work to some extent and effective especially at the beginning but no two lists will be the same. Jackie’s warm market will have entirely different people than say mine or someone else’s. Your warm market consists of people you know and if you know people that are entrepreneur-minded, you’ll have different results, compared to someone’s list that’s entirely made up of happy employees. Yes, there are people who are happy being employees :). But in general, it’s a great list to get your business off the ground, but to build big you really have to incorporate online marketing to the mix.

It’s cool how Facebook has reall allowed us to find and reconnect with people. And I have sponsored people from my past through Facebook without ever even mentioning my business. They find my profile details and click!

Hey Jackie,
I am glad you made this video. I have to admit that even though I teach my team to contact their warm market first…I have not really done it myself. After watching your video I will go ahead and make that happen.
My only obstacle would be that I do not have anyone’s contact information anymore…but that is not really a problem, because they are all on Facebook…LOL! 🙂

Well, remember, your only job is to NOTIFY your warm market and then keep developing your business skills as you venture into other areas of finding leads.
Some will, some won’t, you can’t control that!

i’m having the same problem as amy, my friends and family just won’t jump on board.
Jackie Ulmer says
Hey Amy,
Sounds like you have had a personal experience here? I have to say, my experience was the opposite. Although most of our friends and family didn’t join, one set of really good friends did and they got busy. They passed us and created a team that replaced my airlines sales income.
That is why I always say that I would not be here if not for warm market, even though I do mostly online Social Media marketing now. Had I not had that experience, who knows? I might have quit and never made it this far.
So, leave no stone unturned as you never know.
And, worth mentioning – this couple was already successful. Cushy six figure income, beautiful home, nice cars and the works. So, in a sense, they were on our “chicken list.” But we figured – what the heck, why not?
SOOOO glad we did!
Thanks for sharing!

The thing about the warm market is that friends & family will most likely hang back and wait until you succeed before they hop on board. They are very supportive, but in words not in cash or deed. Maybe it has something to do with being a “listening” friend (passive) rather than a “partner in the trenches.” At least that’s how it has been for me. Thanks for this post.

Thanks for the heads up Deb! Try it now, it’s fixed. Aweber changed their forms and it is messing with a bunch of mine, grrr. Ha!
I appreciate you letting me know!

Hi Jackie, I think there is something wrong with the form for the ebook above as I tried to join and twice got an error. Experience and consistency is the key as you pointed out. The warm market is called that because they are never cold calls. They are people you know as opposed to those you do not have a relationship with so they should definitely know what you are up to.
