Try Something New For 30 Days – TED Talks
We’ve heard it said before – 21 days to a new habit. But, what happens when we commit to a 30 day challenge of just “trying something new….”
Before you watch this outstanding video from the famous and inspiring TED Talks, grab a piece of paper and make a list of 10 things RIGHT NOW that you would like to challenge yourself to do, try or change for 30 days.
Here are some ideas –
Try a Vegan Diet
Do 25 pushups and sit ups a day
Walk 20 minutes
Sit down with each member of your family for 20 minutes, with NO distractions (yes, that means the phone is turned OFF!)
Make 2 calls each day to share your business
Reach out to one extended family member each day for 30 days
Pay it forward in some way – buy the person behind you in line coffee; grab an extra newspaper and hand it off to the person walking to the stand; SOMETHING!
Practice gratitude – write 3 things you are grateful for each night before bed
FILL IN THE BLANK
.
.
Okay, what do you think?
How do you feel?
Can you do this? Can you share this? Can you teach this?

30 days is certainly a good start on developing a new habit but the problem is that most people stop there. The key is not to stop after 30 days – Use that as a springboard to carry on for the year.

Hey Nick! I think the thought process is – 21 days to a new habit – so 30 either is going to lock it in, or people will decide they don’t want to continue. But, you are right, use it as a springboard!

I think some habits take a lot longer than 21 days to create. I know that waking up early took almost 2 months to become habitual for me. This article said that it takes 66 days to become a full habit? http://yourbrainatwork.org/how-you-can-train-your-brain-to-create-new-habits/

I would guess it depends on the individual and how we actually “condition” our brain. If we believe 21 days will do it, and our focus is there, then it can be done. I’ve done it! And, for others, it will take longer! Thanks for weighing in!
