Eliminating the Overwhelm in Your Business
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other peoples’ thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition; they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” Steve Jobs
Entrepreneurial overwhelm hits us all at some time, and becomes a recurring theme. Perhaps you can relate. And this overwhelm shows up in several ways:
Physical
Tangible
Emotional
We often feel like there is so much to do, and just not enough time to do it.
Just having those thoughts can render us useless and paralyze us. Often, when this happens, we stress out and react in very negative ways.
This is most often the time when people will give up and quite on their business.
Let’s talk about some things you can do to stay out of this danger zone.
First, you’ve got to get skilled at managing both your time and energy, inside and outside. What that means is that you must manage your thoughts around it, as well as your physical actions around it.
No matter how much we do or achieve, it can seem like it’s just never enough.
Here are 4 steps to keep yourself “managed”:
- Check in on yourself regularly; what are you thinking; and then what are you producing.
- Get your plans, goals and intentions, as well as your daily action steps out of your head; WRITE it down on paper.
- Turn everything off that could potentially distract you; get disciplined.
- Just do it; get ‘er done.
Sound too simple? Well, like anything, it’s easy to do, and easy NOT to do!
Check in on yourself regularly; what are you thinking; and then what are you producing. This is simple, really. At the end of each day, write down in a journal what your day consisted of. What were your thoughts and major emotions for the day? What did you accomplish? What are you proud of? What will you improve on?
Get your plans, goals and intentions, as well as your daily action steps out of your head; WRITE it down on paper. Do this in your journal each day as well. Simple enough.
Turn everything off that could potentially distract you; get disciplined. This is potentially the hardest of all four steps, because it requires your discipline! Get off email lists that don’t serve you, and only distract you. Especially the “bright, shiny objects” ones. You know what I mean! Get off Social Media unless your business tasks are done. And, stay out of all Social Media drama. Read books and magazines that support and uplift you!
Just do it; get ‘er done. Again, another challenging one, but SO important! When you get the first three mastered, and you schedule the time in your calendar for getting things done, you WILL get it done.
So, your homework? Work on these four items for the next month. Don’t stress yourself out. Have fun, relax, acknowledge yourself and watch good things unfold!

Jackie, as always you speak what I need to hear when I need to hear it. In the law, I had to be good at time management; the structure was critical. I’m struggling to get that back, but feel I’m making progress. Thank you for the kick in the pants!
