Defining Moments in Your Business
At an event I attended a few years back, the speaker shared a very powerful, dynamic presentation that gets to the heart of what we do in our business. We plant seeds, water and tend to them, and we have faith that the harvest can’t be prevented.
Think about what that means, and how it relates to you. There are certain things that just do come to pass, if we take action on them.
It speaks not only to our business but anything we do in life, really.
It’s about consistency; faith; and taking the right actions in life and business, such as planting the seeds, watering and then having the patience to wait for them to sprout and bloom. Because they will.
It struck a chord with me and most everyone in the room!
So, in this episode of the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show #330, I want to share a little about how this statement, and this philosophy fits into your business.

The Harvest Can’t Be Prevented – Defining Moments in Your Business
My story is about Struggle and Defining Moments – Read it Here! Possibly you can relate to parts of it!
I was a network marketing skeptic, to begin with. My 1st sponsor in network marketing and I had met at the gym back in Tempe, AZ and also worked for the same airline. We became good friends, and did a lot together socially, hiking, waterskiing, and hanging out on Mill Avenue, listening to bands. He approached me about taking a look at his business and I promptly said – NO THANKS.
You may have had a good friend say this to you. Fast forward 15 months, I’m home with my first child, and my husband and I are committed to having me home full time. I began looking for something I could do from home. That Christmas, our friend came to our home for dinner, and drove up in a BMW. IT was an older car, nothing fancy, and I am not a car person, but it represented success, and I knew how little he was making at the airline. When he told me his “business” had paid for it and he was now very part time at the airline, I was fascinated.
I asked him questions all through dinner – what was it, how did it work, how would I make money, what would I be doing.
The key here – life and timing changes for people so you must always remember that quite often a NO today is really a NOT NOW.
I signed up and started building a business. I was not a fast starter but I am committed to my why and my dreams – this is key. No matter what, I always knew that quitting is NOT an option.
Point to remember – you NEVER know what someone is thinking and not telling you. You never know when someone’s life situation changes and what they were totally closed to before becomes perfect for NOW.
When I went looking for a business, I never thought of my friend and his business. I went to the library doing research. Today, millions of people a DAY go online. Many are looking for a solution. A solution you offer.
Not just for those in Network Marketing, but any business.
With an online business system, as part of your marketing strategy – blog, lead capture, content, and social media, you have the ability to be found when someone’s time is RIGHT. And, when you notify those who you already know, and you keep in touch with them every 4-6 months, you will strike gold.
What does it mean – the harvest can’t be prevented? Think about a farm and the crops in the field. If the seeds are planted, tended to, watered and given TIME, the harvest ALWAYS comes, right?
A farmer doesn’t stop watering, tending, pulling the weeds and so on just because he doesn’t see any small shoots coming up in the first few days or weeks. He continues on because he trusts, he knows, he believes.
Trust, know and believe in the process in your business, too.
4 Keys to an Ongoing Harvest in Your Business

The Action Steps or Daily, Weekly, Monthly Business Plan
The Defining Moments
Key #1 – Dream
Define your why, create dream/vision boards ; take pictures, collect magazines. A billionaire I know once shared with me that he has a dream book and flips through it daily and adds to it.
Surround yourself with things that expand your vision – this includes people, magazines, books, CDs, DVDs and events.
Especially EVENTS! They build belief, culture, and defining moments. More on events in a minute.
Envision what you want daily and see yourself where you want to be. Revisit your dream book or board several times through out the day. Create a bucket list. Write down 3 things you would do, be or have this year if money was not holding you back.
For me, and my family, for the longest time, it was getting a place at the beach. I’ve had that on my list since I was a kid. I used to lay in bed at night dreaming of being at the beach. While living in Arizona, I subscribed to the magazine Coastal Living…and would flip through it monthly, dreaming….
In 2008, that became a reality for us. I had it written down, had pictures, and had actually picked out the complex we bought in a few years before we actually bought it. And, the funny thing – the EXACT unit I wanted, the model and one with an awesome ocean view is the one we got! It was on a short sale and we HAPPENED to be in town as all of that was happening. Coincidence? I think not!
The dream became a reality.
So, what is on your list? What things do you WANT, that may stretch you a little now? Get them written down and into your psyche. Feel within your soul what it will be like when you achieve that.
Key #2 – System
It’s so simple – You have a daily process in your business, learn it and live it, and DO IT!
it’s the daily process and the tools/events we have in place that make it simple for you to build a business.
Never lose sight of how simple it is.
Expand your database daily, online and offline. Add new names to your list daily, contact a few new people daily; build the relationship. Be interested. Watch for clues and when the time is right, mention your business. Use a 3rd party approach.
Network Marketing, Real Estate, Life Coach, Insurance ideas.
Know the processes and tools you will use for a first look, second look, third if needed and how to follow up.
Launch or re-launch your business now with massive action. Call it a Plan B Overview, or come up with something catchy. Invite people to opportunity webinars and such. Invite them to look at a capture page and watch a video. Invite, invite, invite and detach from whether they say yes or no.
Steps in the system are:
Invite – hey, have you ever considered adding to your income with an online business? I’ve found something unique and it might interest you. I don’t know, you would need to decide for yourself.
Get commitment.
Send to lead capture page.
Set date for follow up conversation.
Get consistent and get in the flow of taking these daily action steps
Other parts of the system are –
Blog, and create content.
Market that content on Social Media
Create other engaging content for social media that fits your brand and calls out to your ideal client.
Drive people back to blog with lead capture form.
Follow up and build relationship with that growing list.
Tell your own story.
Plug into calls and events. Plan to travel/attend events 3-4 times a year in your business.
Convention – non negotiable
Regional events and calls
Generic events that focus on marketing and business skills and put you in front of a new audience that you can use to expand your database and grow your list.
The Harvest Can’t Be Prevented…
The third key to creating that bountiful harvest is
Key #3 – Action
Do productive activity every day. Income producing activities.
Here are the action steps you must commit to and schedule into your calendar daily. Notice I said schedule into your calendar. More on that in a minute.
These are the income producing action steps you must be doing consistently.
Contacting new people daily. My absolute minimum is 2 new people daily. That can be online and offline.
The ideal thing, especially to grow fast is to do both. Meet people offline, bring the relationship back online and grow that know, like and trust more quickly.
Follow up – solid, consistent follow up will create that harvest. Again, you don’t know what another person is thinking. Remember my story, I was interested in a business but not right away.
Sponsor, train and duplicate – for those in Direct Sales, or Real Estate agents with a Keller Williams or EXP type program, your business will grow and thrive as you do this consistently. Get people started RIGHT!
Business launch parties – leverage your time by getting your message out to groups of people at once. Use zoom or a web conference room.
Events – events change lives, get people inspired and grow your business. Promotions always follow events. Events build belief, culture, and defining moments. Schedule and attend events each year. Promote these tirelessly to your team. Invite guests and create a vision through these events. At events, get your team together for some fun, bonding and brainstorming. Even if your team is just one other person to begin with. Culture is critical to success, retention, and growth. People want to be part of a culture of success, fun and caring. Create that from the very start. IF your upline has something for you to plug into at larger events, do that until your own team is so large you need to breakaway. This creates synergy for everyone as the team get togethers grow! It creates that – You Have to BE There – vision.
What is the next event you have on your calendar?
Okay, so let’s talk about the calendar. When someone on my team comes to me and they express that they are struggling and that nothing is happening. The first thing I have them do is take out their calendar and go through the business and income producing activities that they engaged in for the previous month with me.
I’m sure you can guess what happens next. Most often, the calendar is virtually blank.
The other activity that must be done daily is inviting people to take a look. The second thing I ask someone who comes to me, struggling, is how many people did you invite last month. Again, that often tells a story.
That’s not meant to be harsh, it’s just a reality.
There are a few indisputable facts about Network Marketing that will lead you to a bountiful harvest that you simply can’t prevent! Inviting people to take a look and engaging in the product itself is a BIG part of that.
The Harvest Can’t Be Prevented…
If you want to test this, pick out 5 people within your company who have the success you want. Ask them how long they have been in the business and how many people they have invited. You will find a similar story with them all.
Finally, let’s talk about the 4th key
Key #4 – Defining moments
Who you become in the journey to your success – you can’t help but grow as a person.
Success in this business comes down to defining moments. And, there usually are more than one. A good friend and top income earner of mine calls it – the day you get your swagger.
I want to share a few of
My Personal Defining Moments
I encourage you to watch for and create those in your life.
My first convention – I looked around the room, and at those who had already made it up on stage and KNEW I could do it.
My sponsor speaking at convention and realizing he wasn’t waiting for me. Nosebleed seats.
My husband deciding he no longer wanted to work it. I could quit on my dreams or keep going.
My neighbor Janeen, who laughed at me.
Sponsoring my first person – it works and there will be others.
So, here are some final thoughts.
For this next year, get a few events on your calendar and commit to attend. Meet the people who live the lifestyle you want.
Money is a giving tool that allows you to expand who you are . It creates security and freedom for you, and uplifts others through your generosity
Leadership in this business is about learning to generate and manage your own emotions. I believe that happiness is a choice, allowing other people to affect your belief is a choice.
Learn to manage your emotions and stay in action moving forward will ensure a bountiful harvest.
Develop an unlimited tolerance threshold.
Remember CTFAR –
Circumstances + Thoughts + Feelings + Actions = RESULTS – if you aren’t getting the results you want but you are taking action steps, weigh in on your circumstance and see it for just what is is. Then, pay attention to your thoughts and beliefs and see if something is holding you back!
Weigh in on your feelings, too. Feelings CAN be changed, when we logically and rationally evaluate a situation. And, our thoughts.
Let’s finish the holiday season STRONG and let’s make this next year a time of amazing growth, abundance and gratitude for us all, and reach out and touch the lives of others.
