Facebook Hashtags – what does this mean for YOU and your business.
This can be a great way for you to make some better use of your time with engagement. Here is the first thing that came to mind for me –
I have 5 minutes to hop on Facebook, how can I be effective for business? Now, I can simply use the search box and see what is trending in my niche and jump in the conversation!
And, keep in mind – some people are simply out on Social Media for fun, reconnections and games.
Others of us are there for business as well as fun and reconnections. (Hopefully, not the games, ha ha!)
And, it’s proving to be both helpful in search, and annoying to some friends, who are not there for business.
With Facebook Hashtags, you can:
- Use the search bar to search for specific terms and see what is trending
- Click on hashtags on other services such as Instagram, that integrate with Facebook
- Use the hashtag results in search to compose your status updates
Here is what Facebook has to say, which does make some sense, when you think about it:
During primetime television alone, there are between 88 and 100 million Americans engaged on Facebook – roughly a Super Bowl-sized audience every single night. The recent “Red Wedding” episode of Game of Thrones, received over 1.5 million mentions on Facebook, representing a significant portion of the 5.2 million people who watched the show. And this year’s Oscars buzz reached an all-time high on Facebook with over 66.5 million interactions, including likes, comments, and posts. To date, there has not been a simple way to see the larger view of what’s happening or what people are talking about.
Keep in mind that Facebook is a “Social Network”, first and foremost, so they are not looking at this from YOUR business or MY business, but rather THEIR business.
Now, think how this can play into your business.
With more than 4.75 billion pieces of content shared daily on Facebook, there is surely a margin of business for you.
Over at Facebook-Studio.com, here are some things shared:
- If you are already using hashtags in an advertising campaign through other channels, you can amplify these campaigns by including your hashtags in Facebook advertising. The same creative best practices on Facebook still apply – compelling copy and photography that is in the brand voice works best.
- Any hashtags that you use on other platforms that are connected to your Facebook Page will be automatically clickable and searchable on Facebook.
- Like other Facebook marketing tools, hashtags allow you to join and drive the conversations happening about your business. We recommend you search for and view real-time public conversations and test strategies to drive those conversations using hashtags.
- Hashtags do not impact your distribution or engagement in News Feed on either desktop or mobile. We recommend you continue to focus on your existing campaigns to drive your most important business objectives.
So, what do you do first?
Relax! Roll with it, and watch and see what happens. Play around a little and see what evolves.
Start using some hashtags around your own target market and niche. Use custom posts to only go to a few to test the waters. This is done by creating “custom friends lists.”
Create a status update.
Use keywords in the status update hashtag relating to your post – ie: #networkmarketing #mlm #directsales #wahm
Don’t go overboard and use too many. Start with ONE and experiment.
At this date, not everyone has the feature is not turned on for everything.
Bottom line – Facebook is a fabulous platform, AND – you don’t own or control it.
So, rather than fight it, learn to roll with it and ALWAYS be creating your own hub of the universe – your blog and a site you own!

Aloha Jackie!
Thank you for your update on the FB Hashtags! I love it and then again, I was wondering the best ways to use it. Your post helped to clarify my first steps. 🙂 Thank you 🙂
I would love it if you could explain how to use it to search for our niche market.
Much love & gratitude,
Kellie 🙂

Thanks Kellie, and I would say – determine your niche market and then brainstorm a list of keywords associated with that market. Then, use the FB search box to see who’s chatting about it. So, let’s say it’s #weightloss – type that in and see who is saying what. Then, you can check out the profiles of those chatting about it and see who you might want to connect with and begin to build the relationship with.
How’s that?
