Wondering How to Make Facebook Groups Work For Your Business
With over 1 billion people worldwide now on Facebook, it is an outstanding tool for marketing yourself and your business. It doesn’t matter what business you see, whether online or offline, these days it seems that they all have a facebook page and they want your like!
Facebook Pages and Groups have barely scratched the surface in their usefulness to you as a home business; online business owner or Network Marketer. Your target audience is likely right there, among the many groups and pages that exist.
How to Choose Facebook Groups
This blog post is going to focus on some commonly asked questions I get about how to choose groups; what to avoid and whether certain groups are a good fit.
IF you have other questions you would like addressed, ask them below!
1. Should I focus on smaller Facebook groups, say around 3,000 members or less, or are larger groups of 10,000 plus okay?
A. Try a little of both. With Facebook groups, you just won’t know until you try, to be honest. Find some groups that fit your target audience and join 10-15 of them, of all different sizes. Commit to a 90 day plan of being active and then re-evaluate after that time. Remember that more people are watching than posting at any time online. It’s not the size of the group, but rather the activity and value offered by the group.
2. Should I join Facebook groups where the only thing that really happens is people post their own promotional links?
A. Yes and no! Like above, commit to that Facebook group for 90 days, and be consistent. Remember that every post you make has the potential of landing in each members newsfeed. So, it’s not like everyone has to be or even is going back to that group page to see what’s happening. Most of your activity will originate within the newsfeed. Focus on creating engaging inquiry posts and not just blatant spam. I have team members who are getting sign ups from these groups, so some people are paying attention! Just avoid the tendency to get distracted by what others are sharing and posting!
3. Should I only join open Facebook groups or are closed groups okay too?
A. The rule of thumb on Facebook Groups, as you have probably figured out is that you have to join and interact before you are going to know if a group is a good fit for you. The nice thing about the whole process is that you can opt out and leave the Facebook Group at any time. No one even knows!!! Open or public groups means that it has the potential to show up in the newsfeed of those outside of the group when they see you make a post there. So, pay attention to what you post.
Also, you want to refrain from back to back posting in group after group that is open because your post, usually the same content, may show up multiple times in the newsfeed of your friends and connections not in the group, since it is public, and it can look a little spammy if you aren’t careful.
4. What types of posts should I contribute to Facebook Groups?
A. Like anything, a mix of who and what you are/do is going to be the best way. Offer tips and ideas of value; things that make others take notice and want to click back to your profile and learn more about you. Create a solid mix of Business Inquiry posts as well as tips and ideas to share.
And, make sure you have taken the time to really create a power profile with a link back to your blog so that as you create curiosity, people will click to learn more about you. Make it easy for them to connect with you, learn more and become interested!

Further on Qu 2: Will my newsfeed jam with promotional links if I am in a very big group?
I have some more Questions
1: To opt out from a group, how can I do that?
2: For anything posted in a closed group, my friends cannot see in my newsfeed. Is it correct?
Thanks again,
Amanda.

Thanks Amanda!
Facebook has different ways that it filters what shows in your newsfeed and really, all you can do is test it and see what happens. You have the option to filter out certain things from your newsfeed, so you can pick and choose as you go along.
There is an option to LEAVE GROUP in each group, at the top, right, for now, ha ha! Facebook moves things pretty consistently!
I don’t think your posts show in a closed group, in the newsfeed of those not in the group, correct!
