Cold Market Prospecting
Once you’ve gone through your warm market, or if you are wanting to build with massive action, you will at some time find yourself looking into the cold market environment. Mastering this process can make you a fortune, and especially if you are prepared ahead of time.
Systems are what make businesses successful. Think of McDonald’s – shake machine in the same place; french fry machine in same place – same temperature, same settings, and so on. You want this for your business.

So, let’s talk about buying leads first. This is often the easiest way to get started in working the cold market. You don’t have to mess with advertising ad copy; finding where to advertise and such. The system that I use and teach and has proven successful when working cold market – Call, Email, Mail. I’ll repeat –
Call, Email, Mail – if you have a mailing address. Remember this – a postcard gets a 100% open rate.
One of the biggest mistakes people make when they purchase leads is thinking that these people are chomping at the bit to join their business. This is not the case. In most cases, they are cautiously optimistic, and yet skeptical of YOU, someone who they know nothing about except that you are out to get their money.

ADVERTISING – specifically Craigslist
One of the most popular sites these days to advertise on is Craigslist. And, there are some things to know about doing this successfully.
Creating leads with Craigslist is free, although it takes time and learning how to do it correctly. HAving people who come to you puts you in a power mindset of being the recruiter or interviewer. Craigslist is one of the highest trafficked websites in the world and its full of people looking for opportunity. One great thing a bout this method is YOU DO NOT NEED A WEBSITE OR INTERNET MARKETING SKILLS TO DO THIS.
Let’s cover some basic steps to get started.
Step 1 Set up a free google voice account.
Step 2 Set up your voice mail with a specific message. Details in podcast.
Step 3 Post Your Ad – details and sample ad in podcast. You want to be careful how you list things, because you are not offering a job. It requires you to put an income level, so ideally put – commission based only. This is important so you aren’t wasting your time or theirs.
Once the leads come in, you want to do an initial call to screen them. Details in the podcast.

We are looking for those who are movers and shakers, right? Here are a few of the Qualities you are looking for:
Outgoing
Upwardly mobile
Enjoy being paid on their own efforts
Take on responsibility
Self motivated
Large network of friends
Are risk tolerant
3 common factors with Business Professionals:
Money motivated and enjoy working on commission
Moderate to high tolerance for risk
Career that involves calling on people or managing people
Categories of Professionals:
Real Estate Pros
Mortgage Brokers or Loan Officers
Financial Planners and Stock Brokers
Sales People – pharmaceutical, auto, media,
Insurance agents
Managers and Directors
Retail Sales and Customer Service Reps – a little lower on the scale
Current Network Marketers

You offer some great cold calling tips here, along with other recruiting strategies. At the end of the day, there are many ways to build a business. The key is to pick one strategy, take massive action and master it. Find something that works for you and then become an expert in that marketing strategy. Do that, and you have the world at your fingertips. Try to do too many things at once and you will dilute your efforts and not get anywhere near the results that you could.

I followed your advice and placed an ad on Craigslist last Friday – BTW, in CA it’s $25 to place a job opening ad. Totally worth the effort and the $25. I got a lot of response and have set up appointments with two people who called and have two others who are possibilities. Thanks Jackie – I love my company and my product but your how-to tips are so much more helpful that the rah-rah stuff most people get from their companies.

Hey great article Jackie. You obviously need to balance warm market recruiting with cold market for long-term success, but our group here in Australia has had great success with purchasing cold leads. It’s crazy that most mlm companies don’t promote that you can buy leads!
