Let’s Build That List BABY!
You may have heard it said before – the power is in the LIST! And, it’s true. In today’s podcast, you are going to learn why!

When I started marketing online, I had no idea what I was doing. As I’ve shared, I knew how to send email and could use Yahoo as a search engine. But, I could never get back to where I started or even figure out where I was going. I had attended an Internet seminar, however, and was determined to make this powerful tool work for me, my business and my partners.
One thing I have learned along the way is ASK QUESTIONS!
While I was out asking questions, I stumbled upon Jonathan Mizel, author of the Online Marketing Letter and Internet guru. I had purchased a subscription to his newsletter and bought his manual on Internet Marketing.
I took a big risk, emailed him and asked him to evaluate my site and give me feedback. It was a VERY homemade looking site, but, hey, I had to start somewhere!
He didn’t write me back for a few days, so I felt discouraged. And then, an email popped in from him and he let me know right up front that he was not at all interested in MLM and do not try to recruit him. I assured him that was not my intent. I just truly wanted some internet marketing coaching and advice. He believed me, because he called me! After nearly two hours on the phone, I came away with tons of valuable information on what works online. The most significant of which is to have your own opt-in list or newsletter!
The reason (and I mean the only reason!) I am able to personally enroll 75 – 100 people each year is because I have a system for getting people to my site (leads and my online marketing) and a system for capturing their email address, my newsletter and free reports. Then, I follow up REPEATEDLY through the Auto-responder. They eventually get to know me, like me, trust me and partner with me!

Please don’t miss the importance of this component of your online marketing campaign because it is EXTREMELY important. The list, that is!
There are three key pieces you need to start building a high quality list:

The first thing you need is a super high quality, enticing, valuable free bribe. You need to offer your prospective client something that will make them anxious and happy to hand over their name and email address.
The second thing you need is an email management system (typically called an auto-responder) that is going to automate this whole process and make it a snap for you to manage.
The third thing you’re going to need is an “opt in” or “subscribe” box on your website or blog.

Remember the 4 Steps to a Compelling Free Offer
1. Identify a Pressing, Urgent Need or Desire
2. Share some killer ideas and knowledge
3. Create a Killer Headline
4. Choose your delivery method – PDF, Audio (MP3) or Video; or a combination!
Go through the checklist for your list –
Have you identified a sincere need or desire?
Does your content speak directly to that need or desire?
Have you delivered a solution of some sort in your report?
Have you communicated clearly on how to take action NOW on part of it?
Does your chosen format of content delivery play well to your strengths?
Make sure your offer is above the fold on your blog,
Are you tracking with Google Analytics?
We’ll talk about other ways to monetize your list in future episodes. For now, let’s get that list launched and growing.
And remember –
Protect your list – don’t spam them with every get rich quick affiliate program that comes down the pike!
It’s about Quality, not quantity, so don’t get too concerned with the size of your list.
Be consistent in letting your list hear from you, and make sure it has value!

Gary Vaynerchuk’s Crush It – when I read this, I knew he “got me” as someone obsessed with using online methods to grow a business.
When I started building a business online, back in Oct 1999, I really felt all alone. The internet was not as warm and fuzzy as it is today, with more people and forums and groups online. Or maybe I just couldn’t find them.
There were times I thought I might just be crazy, spending so much time out in the depths of cyberspace, trying to build a business and an income.
In 2009, Gary Vaynerchuk, who I had never heard of, and I’m fairly sure he had not heard of me either (laugh) wrote a book called – Crush It – actually – Why Now is the Time to Crush It and Cash in On Your passion.

I read it and immediately thought – oh my gosh, this guy “gets me!” Getting up at 2am to mess with this and tweak that; learn about this other thing online – that was ME!
Gary is not a network marketer, but rather co-owner, wine buyer and enthusiast at his family liquor and wine store. He learned how to take that expertise online and added millions annually to the stores bottom line through a blog, Twitter, YouTube wine tasting videos and a LOT of hard work.
One of my favorite quotes from the book –
If you already have a full time job, you can get a lot done between 7pm and 2am, 9-3am if you have kids. so learn to love working during those predawn hours . I promise it won’t be hard if you’re doing what you love more than anything else.
Learn to navigate the waters of Social Media Marketing to build a business and promote a brand based around what you love most, and you will only be limited by how far you want to sail.

Wow, it’s like you read my mind or something, I sent Jack Bastide this question a few days ago. I have a blog, and I know the importance of building a list, but I have NO idea how to get this going! I’m stuck with the freebie… and I am clueless about what to do with my list once I start building it…. Other than that, I’m ready to go 😉
