Now, let me be the first to say, I have used every one of these, so I&#8217;m not picking on you. My goal is to help you see that excuses will get you no where, and the sooner you let go of them, the faster your business will move forward.</span></span></strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Excuse #1 – I Don&#8217;t Know What to Do.</strong> Now, this could be a viable excuse if your sponsor signed you up and never trained you, or directed you to training. However, if you&#8217;ve been trained, or know where to find training for your business, then this is a bogus excuse. We do two things in Direct Sales, whether it is Network Marketing or Party Plan – we get a few loyal retail customers; we find others who want a business and who will do what we do. That means making your list; opening your mouth; using the tools; and follow the age old, time proven techniques. Whether you are working offline, or online, this does not change. You must be talking to people – every day – at least 2.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Excuse #2 – I&#8217;ve Talked to Everyone, No One is Interested</strong>. Now, there is just no way possible you have talked to everyone. Most of the time, when people use this excuse, they&#8217;ve talked to 10 or less people and they&#8217;ve gotten discouraged. Here&#8217;s the thing – for everyone who tells you NO at first, some of them will come back later and get involved. I did. I certainly didn&#8217;t sign up right off the bat. In fact, it was 15 months before I got started. My sponsor didn&#8217;t let my NO discourage him. Instead, he kept on talking to people and had promoted to a higher level when I came in, which meant my delay was worth more money to him. So, how many people have you really talked to?</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Excuse #3 – Real Life Got in the Way.</strong> We all have 24 hours in the day and we all have a real life. We can either choose to manage that 24 hours and real life, or it can manage us. If it manages us, we will likely never achieve what we want. Everyone has challenges. Deal with it. Learn to make adjustments and give up less important things when &#8220;real life comes calling.&#8221; I used my children as an excuse not to work my business for way too long, even though they were ultimately my reason why. Next time you feel inclined to use the &#8220;real life&#8221; excuse, take a solid look and see it is just that – an excuse. And if so, how is that ever going to change?</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Excuse #4 – The Products Are Too Expensive.</strong>  Ask yourself if this is someone else&#8217;s objections, or in fact your own? Are there people now buying the product? Are there people having success retailing the product? Is there a demand for the product? Do you believe in your product? I know for me, the times I have used this excuse came down to my own personal feelings regarding the products and my opportunity. When you are sold, this &#8220;objection&#8221; can&#8217;t get you down because you know it&#8217;s just an excuse. So evaluate closely where you are with things and move forward accordingly.</p>

<p> </p>
<p><strong>Excuse #5 – People Are Different in My Town, State, Country.</strong> This is a doozy, really. C&#8217;mon – people are people and town are towns. In every town, there are high end houses and lower priced houses; people driving expensive cars and people driving a Ford Focus. People are people and it has nothing to do with where you live. It has to do with you, and your mindset. After all, you live in your town and you saw the opportunity, right? Do you honestly believe you are the only one in your town like you?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>What you have to do is decide if you want to keep placing blame and finding excuses, or if you want to start taking responsibility and achieving success. The two go together and you won&#8217;t have one without the other.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>So, cast aside those excuses and define what you are willing to do to have what you want. Then pursue it relentlessly! See you at the top!</p>

<p>Here are some ideas for ensuring that the money WILL come –</p>
<p>Commit to your own success and shrug off any temptation to quit.</p>
<p>Evaluate your belief in your company, your products, the industry. You must be solid in ALL THREE areas. If there is doubt in anyone, go to work on solving this.</p>
<p>Don’t be jealous or catty about those who are successful. Instead, extend a bridge and use them as a positive resource for knowledge and growth. Study what they are doing, the words they are saying, the actions they are taking. Ask them what book they are currently reading.</p>
<p>Look carefully at your use of the word failure. How is this word controlling you? Is it failure if a person tells you no? What if someone tells you that you are crazy? NONE of this is failure. This is simply a chance for you to evaluate yourself, your goals and rededicate to your own success. Failure can only occur if you refuse to see the growth that emerges from every business interaction you engage in.</p>
<p>Engage in as much personal growth and development time as you can possibly fit in. Read ten minutes from a personal growth book right before you call prospects or have any encounters about your business. Your mindset, even if you don’t realize it, will determine your destiny.</p>
<p>Give yourself permission to have success. REALLY. You might be thwarting your own success by some deep seeded belief that you are not worthy of success. Sure you are! You are as worthy as ANYONE. Go to the mirror, look yourself in the eyes for one full minute and refuse to look away. Say to yourself – “I am a winner and other winners flock to me.” Smile and wink! Seal the deal.</p>
<p>Know that you can make very big money in MLM even if you don’t have a large budget. It will require one of two things, however. Time and sweat equity, or money. All three are nice, but you can be successful just by rolling up your sleeves, thinking outside of the box and willing to push beyond your comfort zone.</p>

<p>I wrote her back and explained company policy to re-sign or be moved and then asked the much anticipated question &#8211; &#8220;If you don&#8217;t mind sharing, we had a lot of previous correspondence. Why did you sign up with someone else?&#8217;</p>
<p>Here was her answer -</p>
<p>&#8220;She is in the same time zone as me, but a lot of good that is doing me. She was running specials at the time. She was willing to give me <em><strong>XYZ</strong></em> <em><strong>for free </strong></em>if I joined her team. And so I joined with her. Now, I hear nothing and get no support. I still hear from you all of the time.&#8221;</p>
<p>My point in sharing this with you is two-fold. The first is to let you know that you do not NEED to &#8220;incentivize&#8221; or &#8220;buy people in&#8221; by giving away free stuff for signing up.</p>
<p>It &#8220;dumbs down&#8221; our profession and makes the sponsor look desperate, and the company, as well. Think about the impression it gives.</p>
<p>This is the 3rd email of this type I have received over the last few months from prospects who wanted a &#8220;deal&#8221; to get in, joined with someone else and now have buyer&#8217;s remorse.</p>
<p>The &#8220;deal&#8221; to get in should be in the value of the partnership, coaching and training. Not in a free box of product, a website, or some other gimmick to get people in. While you may sign people up, very often these people don&#8217;t do much as their incentive was in the freebie and they are often unable to duplicate this same offer with others.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a flawed system.</p>
<p>When people ask me if I &#8220;give away&#8221; anything when they sign up, I boldly tell them &#8211; YES. I give away my coaching, training and support, and having spent 13 years designing it, it&#8217;s working pretty well. And, I explain why I believe that it is not in anyone&#8217;s best interest to use this type of incentive. I am very nice about it and am not being cocky or arrogant in the least. We ARE the fastest growing team in the company and there is a REASON for that. That is definitely an incentive!!</p>
<p>Sell the value in the TEAM.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t need a new sign up that badly and neither do you!</p>
<p>The second point in sharing this is to remind us all how important it is to keep in touch with your partners and to return those phone calls and emails. I know, real life gets in the way sometimes but do make it a priority, even if you return then later rather than sooner.</p>
<p>Being a good sponsor helps set a high standard for our industry! Be that high standard!</p>

<p>Yes, it is true that anyone can do this business, and the reality is that most won&#8217;t.</p>
<p><strong>Why do some stick it out while others do not?</strong></p>
<p>I believe this largely comes down to the power behind someone&#8217;s reason for starting the business in the first place, along with their willingness to shed the &#8220;employee mentality, if they have one, and adopt a business owner mentality.</p>
<p>One has to be willing to try, fail, persevere and NOT give up in the face of adversity, or seeming adversity. There are many lessons in this to learn ourselves and to teach our children.</p>
<p><strong>The question has been asked, first by the late, great Jim Rohn, I believe – &#8220;How long will you give your baby to learn to walk?&#8221; The answer of course is – &#8220;As long as it takes.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>Why then, will we not adopt this same attitude in our business? Why do we not realize that we are developing specific business skills that most people do not bring into the business.</p>
<p>The first time one steps onto the basketball court, it is often awkward and very few shots make the basket. Over time, and with consistent practice and &#8220;showing up&#8221; one gets better. Those who persist, often go on to star on their basketball team&#8217;s; go onto college ball and a very few elite will play professional basketball.</p>
<p>In most cases, the professionals are the ones who missed the most shots; practiced the most hours and flat out refused to quit.</p>
<p>Do you have this will power and staying power in you business? What do you want badly enough that your business can bring? How badly do you want it?</p>
<p>Success or failure in a Direct Sales business most often comes down to just refusing to quit when the going gets tough, and persevering to see the job through.</p>
<p>Where do you fit into that?</p>
<p>Have you ever considered trashing your PERFECTLY good business because -</p>
<p><strong>a. No one showed up at your home party/open house?<br />
b. Your first 10 leads said &#8220;no thanks!&#8221;<br />
c. Your family told you that you might be crazy for doing this?<br />
d. A full year has gone by and you have not sponsored anyone?</strong></p>
<p>You are in the RIGHT place and the RIGHT time and are surrounded by people who have experienced ALL of the above.</p>
<p>Do you have true grit staying power?</p>

<p>Recently, my son&#8217;s Ipod had a FATAL CRASH and BURN. Frustrating and technical, all at once.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>We spent  two TEARFUL hours working on this and at first, it seemed to be unsuccessful. It looked like it was going to require a new Ipod.  I have been working with my son to get him to realize that you cannot throw in the towel when the first attempt you make doesn&#8217;t work. You re-adjust, read further into the instructions and exhaust every possible method. This most ALWAYS leads to success!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Sometimes, it is just the slightest little adjustment that makes the difference. In this case, a download of the new software triggered the computer&#8217;s firewall to dis-allow the connection to Apple&#8217;s site.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Had we given up at the first sign of adversity, we might have trashed a perfectly good Ipod.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>If you have a Network Marketing business, have you ever considered trashing your PERFECTLY good business because -</p>
<p> </p>

<p>Despite what may seem like failure right now, you are in the RIGHT place and the RIGHT time and are surrounded by people who have experienced ALL of the above.  Rub elbows daily with those who also see your vision and are taking steps to move themselves forward.</p>

<p>Determine what it might be that is causing a challenge for you. Practice, drill and rehearse. Make sure you are communicating effectively with your prospects and making the conversation about their needs and desires. Role play with your sponsor until you have confidence.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Some people choose to look at the word no as a failure. Instead, I encourage you to look at each attempt you make as a learning experience. It&#8217;s all part of the journey to success, both the yeses and the nos. Although it can be tough at first, get your emotions out of the equation.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Decide what it is you must have from your business. Decide that you will not be deterred in your efforts. Decide that you have true grit staying power.</p>
<p> </p>

<p><em><strong>Have you prepared yourself mentally to start; develop and succeed in your Direct Sales – Network Marketing business? This is a crucial step in getting your business ready. What is your belief level right now? How far have you come with your dream book and your vision?  Have those tools ready to assist you once you get started.</strong></em></p>
<p>You will have some challenging days in this business. You will have days when you are ready to throw in the towel because someone said something to you that you allowed to hurt your feelings.</p>
<p>If you are mentally prepared to deal with these challenges before they occur, you will breeze right through.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m going to tell you a few facts right now -</p>
<p>1.	<strong>In the beginning, you will be extremely underpaid in your business</strong>. You may do the math after the first month and find that you only earned 20 cents an hour. You may do the math the second month and find that you only earned 40 cents an hour. But, three years into your business, you may also find that you earned $100, $200, $300 an hour or more. Will you &#8220;stick and stay until you get your pay?&#8221;</p>
<p>2.	<strong>In the beginning, it will seem like you are pouring money into your business with nothing much coming back.</strong> You will wonder if it&#8217;s worth it. I know people who have gone $20,000-50,000 in debt, developing their multi-million dollar businesses. I know that they had many days of self-doubt and fear that they were making a mistake. Today, they would assure you that it was the right move. They were able to do this because they had a strong belief, vision and commitment to what they wanted in their lives. Do you?</p>
<p>3.	<strong>If someone has led you to believe that you can replace a fulltime income in a few months, or that you will be a six figure income earner at the end of year one, you may be in for an unhappy surprise</strong>. Can these things be done? Yes. Is it the norm? Absolutely not. It takes time, a business budget and consistency to make it happen. You will get there, but it may take two years instead of one. Still, how great is that? </p>
<p>4.	<strong>There are going to be some people that you care about who will not support you in your business and may even laugh at you</strong>. That’s okay. This is not about you. This is some insecurity in them and has nothing to do with you. As difficult as it may seem, do not take it personally. Let that inspire you to move closer to the top and ultimately reach the top. </p>
<p>I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my former neighbor. She was the one who looked at me like I had horns growing out of my head and was the stupidest person on the planet. She told me I was crazy. After I got over being hurt and mad, I let that experience push me and drive me to success. She is my former neighbor because I ultimately moved onward and upward from that neighborhood, and found other neighbors and friends. Don’t let anyone squeeze your excitement and enthusiasm.</p>
<p>Begin right now to see your business as your full time profession and a part of your every day lifestyle. </p>
<p>Prepare your &#8220;elevator speech&#8221; and rehearse it to perfection. Then, when someone asks you what you do, don&#8217;t tell them you are an Administrative Assistant or whatever. Tell them you are &#8220;a small business owner, marketing…….&#8221;</p>
<p>Practice will make perfect at this. Let your business really integrate into your life.</p>
<p>Let your business become part of who you are.</p>

<p>The personal journey you embark upon when you commit to growing a network marketing business is unique in so many ways. It prepares and educates you for so many aspects of life. It prepares you for the greatness of life and also prepares you for dealing with challenges. Which brings me to today&#8217;s topic -</p>
<p>Stress and adversity are necessary for growth.</p>
<p>Knowing this will keep you moving forward in your business daily, despite any obstacles or perceived rejection. Know that the steps you take and the obstacles you encounter are absolutely necessary for your growth on to new levels. This will develop your full potential. No one enjoys stress and adversity but you can learn to face it, accept it, embrace it and charge through it on your road to ongoing growth and success.</p>
<p>You will persist until you succeed with this belief. And, you&#8217;ll know that it&#8217;s not about how much product you retail or how many people you sponsor. Develop your leadership and others will line up to learn from you and grow with you.</p>
<p>As you grow through your business, begin to watch for those people in your business who show up already possessing one or more of these beliefs. This is your target market and will lead you on to awesome success. You are looking for people who possess these beliefs and who understand the power in leveraging their time, contacts and credibility to help others while helping themselves.</p>
<p>Once you sponsor 4 or 5 people who fit this description, your biggest problem won&#8217;t be trying to motivate them. It will be trying to keep up with them!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In the meantime, keep your focus on your own single daily actions and business plan. What are your plans and goals for this week? Write them down and commit to acting on them.</p>

<p><strong>There are three very specific things you MUST have to be successful in YOUR business -</strong></p>
<p> <br />
<strong>Desire</strong> &#8211; you have to have a burning desire. It&#8217;s hard for me to explain this if you don&#8217;t have it; and if you do have it, you know exactly what I mean. You lay in bed at night, tingling with the excitement of what you have your hands on. For me, it gets me BACK out of bed for an hour or two in the wee hours, because I can&#8217;t sleep and am excited to do things. And, because this is inspired action, when I go back to bed, I fall right to sleep and wake up rested, ready to do it again. My husband thinks I am nuts, but he appreciates the efforts! </p>
<p><strong>Willingness to Work </strong>- I guess that goes along with getting up at 2am, ha! No, you don&#8217;t have to, but you MUST be willing to actually work your business. Take action steps to move you forward. Nothing great comes without some effort. Check your &#8220;Willingness to Work&#8221; meter and super charge it if you need to. </p>
<p><strong>Teachable Spirit</strong> &#8211; Are you truly coachable in this business? I wasn&#8217;t in the early days. Boy, I am now! Do you read something in the training manual and think &#8221; I&#8217;m not doing that.&#8221; OR do you neglect to get on coaching calls, or read at all? Again, check your &#8220;teachable spirit&#8221; meter, and decide to make a change if it&#8217;s not registering high. Great things await you if you are willing to make the effort. </p>
<p>Here are three things we all have in common, for the most part. Some of the specifics will vary, but we share some common ground here. </p>
<p><strong>Products</strong> &#8211; we all have a product that hopefully offers a benefit to the end consumer, at a fair market price. Hopefully it is something that people outside of your opportunity also see value in and would purchase regardless of the payplan. And, we know in our own companies, the products are identical for us. So what makes one person do so well with the sale products that another swears don&#8217;t sell? </p>
<p><strong>Opportunity</strong> &#8211; we all have a similar opportunity. Yes, each payplan is a little different, but when it all comes out to it, almost all Direct Sales companies pay out within a small margin of each other. The costs of doing business don&#8217;t vary that much and only a certain amount can pay out and keep the company viable. And, in our own companies, it is identical, isn&#8217;t it? So, again, what makes it go gangbusters for one group of distributors and not for all? If we are in the same company, the pay plan is the same for me and you. Isn&#8217;t that great? When you reach each position on the pay chart, you have the same pay available. When you sponsor someone new, you are paid the same as me. Awesome, isn&#8217;t it? You may be in Maine and I am in California , and we have so much in common. </p>
<p><strong>You/Me </strong>– We all have that in common. We are us, and YOU are the one who determines what your income will be. YOU make the difference. YOU determine it for YOU, I determine it for me. Either way, it comes down to you! Bad news &#8211; it&#8217;s YOU who makes the difference. Some people don&#8217;t want to take responsibility for their success and want to blame others for failures. </p>
<p>Good news &#8211; YOU can make the difference! YOU have so many amazing abilities to make it happen. You have gifts and talents waiting to be uncovered and let loose on this business. It&#8217;s your desire. You must go through a process to get there. Understand the process. I mentioned that on Monday&#8217;s call. UNDERSTAND and accept that there is a process. You can speed up the process through your efforts. Know the process! Make it a GREAT week! </p>

<p>Network Marketing can be a dog eat dog world and unless you are braced and prepared for some of what might come your way, especially in the early days, it can be a tough road.</p>
<p>So, prepare yourself to come out a winner, survive the game, and save yourself first.</p>
<p>The challenge we face in this industry is that so many before us &#8220;did it the wrong way!&#8221; That&#8217;s right. They were misguided in their approach to the business and it left a bad taste in the mouth&#8217;s of many regarding the Network Marketing industry in general.</p>
<p>The old approach of <strong>&#8220;throw em up against the wall and see who sticks&#8221;</strong> has done a lot to create that negative image.</p>
<p>Yes, Network Marketing is a numbers game, meaning the more people you talk to about your opportunity, the better your odds are for making your Network Marketing business a success.</p>
<p>BUT &#8211; STOP the Presses. That doesn&#8217;t mean we treat people like a number.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s relationship first, opportunity second. And, more on that in a later training.</p>
<p>Right now, let&#8217;s focus on survival and what that means.</p>
<p>How many times have you heard &#8211; <strong>&#8220;Know Your Why&#8221;; &#8220;Get Clear on Your Vision&#8221;; &#8220;Have a Reason Bigger Than Yourself.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>The reason we are told that is because if your reason WHY is strong enough, you will survive the Network Marketing game and no one and nothing will deviate you from your end goal.</p>
<p>What often happens in Network Marketing is that we get started, get excited, and rush out to speak to our best friends and family members about what we are doing.</p>
<p>We go to friend number one and share our excitement. Friend number one says <strong>-&#8221;Oh man, you got suckered into one of those deals? That&#8217;s a scam. No one ever makes any money in those deals.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>Boom- shot through the heart. Now, your enthusiasm is not quite as strong, but you are determined.</p>
<p>So, we go to close family member number one, and share our excitement. Close family member number one says -<strong> &#8220;Ha! You idiot. How much did that cost you? You know, Family Member Number Two got involved in &#8216;one of those deals&#8217; and ended up divorced. Is that what you want? If I were you, I wouldn&#8217;t tell another soul what you are doing. Get out now.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>Yikes! Where does that leave us? If the two people at the top of our list think this business of Network Marketing is bad, then it must be. We must have made a terrible mistake.</p>
<p>So, we stop our autoship, stop taking calls from our upline, and begin to tell everyone else we know how &#8220;those deals just don&#8217;t work.&#8221;</p>
<p>Hmmmm. Well, if those deals really don&#8217;t work, why does my monthly check from my company say differently?</p>
<p>So, here are some ideas for Network Marketing Survival and How to Save Yourself First.</p>
<p><strong>Rule Number One</strong> &#8211; know your why. For me, I was determined to NEVER have my kids in daycare. I refused to have someone else raising my kids and sharing the bulk of their day. For me, that made surviving the Network Marketing game a no-brainer. I simply would not quit. If one person had ever been successful, then I could, too.</p>
<p>What is your reason why? Does it create a burn inside you that protects you from all harm? Make sure you are very solid on that why, otherwise you might not be insulated.</p>
<p><strong>Rule Number Two</strong> &#8211; educate yourself on what to say and how to say it. Most Network Marketing newbies have a tendency to say to much, deliver too many facts and turn overnight into a bad salesperson. Don&#8217;t make this mistake. Stories sell, and facts just tell. Develop a short, concise statement that speaks to why you got involved and use that to determine if there is an interest or need to go further. Spend some serious time on this and remember, less is more. Those who are interested will ask you questions and want to know more.</p>
<p>When I am in conversation and the opportunity arises to talk about my business, I will say something like &#8211; &#8220;I work from home in my own business that I run on the Internet. I market a line of INSERT YOUR PRODUCTS. I&#8217;m happy because I&#8217;ve never had to have my kids in daycare.&#8221;</p>
<p>Now, I&#8217;ve answered a question, delivered my own why and mentioned the type of product without getting into all of the boring facts and hype. Do you think that -</p>
<p>a) the mention of a business run on the internet might provoke some questions from someone interested?</p>
<p>b) the mention of my unique products with a quick benefit might create some interest?</p>
<p>c) the mention of not having my kids in daycare might create some curiosity questions from those who are wanting the same thing? How many parents would love to have at least one parent home with the kids?</p>
<p>All I want is to see who my audience really is. I am not out to force my story or opportunity on anyone else. You shouldn&#8217;t be either!</p>
<p><strong>Rule Number Three</strong> &#8211; Feed your mind and surround yourself with other like minded people. I would love to tell you that my success story in Network Marketing came overnight. I would love to tell you that I became a six figure Network Marketing income earner in my first year. But, fact is &#8211; I would be lying to you.</p>
<p>My success story in Direct Sales was a long process, although it started that first year simply because I refused to quit.</p>
<p>Today, I am a six figure income earner and I am proud of the scars I picked up along the way.</p>
<p>I survived the first year, and even the first decade because I was very strong on my reason why, and that reason why meant more to me than what any other person on the planet said or thought.</p>
