If only 1 in 20 people are achieving their goals and the success they want, what are they doing that’s different?

Are they more talented? Smarter? Better Educated? Is it hereditary?

The answer is none of those things. In fact, it is something so small that it may shock you. And it’s something that you can easily begin to do; and , just as easily not begin to do.

It starts with your philosophy. Have you given much thought to your philosophy? Your philosophy is how you think; how you reason about certain things; it’s what you know and how you apply it to what you do.

A positive philosophy is going to inspire you to make positive steps each day toward your goals. A negative philosophy is going to allow you to talk yourself out of taking those steps.

And, it is the small, daily action steps; compounded over time that create what you are looking for in life. Think about it – this is true in every area of your life.

Want to lose weight? It means choosing the salad over the cheeseburger, more often than not; it means walking for 30 minutes a day instead of hanging on the couch; it means being aware of the choices you make and choosing wisely.

Want to build your business? It means making those 2 calls a day to prospects, even when you don’t want to; it’s about attending your company’s regional or national event, even if you go by yourself; it’s about picking up that book and reading 10 inspiring pages each day.

Each of these things is so easy to do; and so easy not to do.

It’s not huge action steps that makes one more successful. It’s small, daily steps, compounded over time.

Network Marketing is a business of duplication and being coachable.

If we aren’t willing to take on the “coachable” part, it often slows down or completely stops the “Duplication” part of things.

When we are new, we also try to “justify” why, in our case, it’s okay to take on a different path. We aren’t going to do ths one part that is recommended because “blah, blah, blah” (insert excuse here!) Now, I know, I’ve been there, done that! I have been the queen of justifying why “that wouldn’t work for me” way too many times in my business!

Success in a Direct Sales and Network Marketing business
DOES require true grit staying power.

Yes, it is true that anyone can do this business, and the reality is that most won’t.

Why do some stick it out while others do not?

I believe this largely comes down to the power behind someone’s reason for starting the business in the first place, along with their willingness to shed the “employee mentality, if they have one, and adopt a business owner mentality.

One has to be willing to try, fail, persevere and NOT give up in the face of adversity, or seeming adversity. There are many lessons in this to learn ourselves and to teach our children.

The question has been asked, first by the late, great Jim Rohn, I believe – “How long will you give your baby to learn to walk?” The answer of course is – “As long as it takes.”

Why then, will we not adopt this same attitude in our business? Why do we not realize that we are developing specific business skills that most people do not bring into the business.

The first time one steps onto the basketball court, it is often awkward and very few shots make the basket. Over time, and with consistent practice and “showing up” one gets better. Those who persist, often go on to star on their basketball team’s; go onto college ball and a very few elite will play professional basketball.

In most cases, the professionals are the ones who missed the most shots; practiced the most hours and flat out refused to quit.

Do you have this will power and staying power in you business? What do you want badly enough that your business can bring? How badly do you want it?

Success or failure in a Direct Sales business most often comes down to just refusing to quit when the going gets tough, and persevering to see the job through.

Where do you fit into that?

Have you ever considered trashing your PERFECTLY good business because -

a. No one showed up at your home party/open house?
b. Your first 10 leads said “no thanks!”
c. Your family told you that you might be crazy for doing this?
d. A full year has gone by and you have not sponsored anyone?

You are in the RIGHT place and the RIGHT time and are surrounded by people who have experienced ALL of the above.

Do you have true grit staying power?

I SURE hope so because you will NEVER regret sticking around for the ride.

If your first step “fix it” program does not work, exhaust every other fix along the way and you WILL rise to the top!

NOW is the perfect time to build your business; to put yourself into massive, consistent, effective action. Not yesterday, it’s gone. Not tomorrow, it never comes. But right now, this moment, in this day.

Build your business with a sense of urgency to get things done for your future. And, building for the future all takes place TODAY!

Let go of the “all or nothing” concept that so many of us have. Some of these pitfalls include -

“I only have a few minutes so I shouldn’t call any leads.” WHAT? Make ONE phone call and applaud yourself for that. It’s one more action step in your journey.

“I work full time and it’s easier for those who don’t.” Not true. Everyone has their own challenges to work with and for those who work, you are out in the mix daily and what better time to begin to make some connections with people. Adapt a natural, fun way of doing this.

“Only the ones who got in early reach the top.” Recently on my Team Call, our VP Charlie Umphred shared that “the beginning is not necessarily the best time to get in to a company.” I know in my first business, MANY major top income earners came in after I started, which told me a thing or two!

TODAY is the day to create your future so you have so much more of it to look forward to.

So, what steps are you capable of taking today? Will you make just ONE phone call? Pass out ONE business card? Ask ONE person about a fundraiser? Home Party? Private Business Reception? Conference Call? Suggest your products?

In less than a year, my son will turn 18 and become an “official” adult. I’m not sure whether to smile and celebrate or cry. IT’s gone so fast, and it just keeps going faster. He’s moving into programs that support him in his desired career path and it’s mind blowing to watch it all unfold.

How could we already be so far along in time that he is ready to begin studying his career path? Where does time go? How can he possibly take this first MAJOR step away from me?

What I can smile about is this – I made the decision to always be home with him. I made the decision that I would do whatever it takes to be there. I heard his first words, was there when he sat up, crawled, and I watched him take his first step, wave bye-bye, play on his first team, ride his bike, go to school on the first day and on and on.

Today, I get to be there when he takes another step on his path.

If I had not made that commitment to pursue and succeed in a home business, I would have missed so much of this, and may not have been able to take him today to pursue this exciting personal journey.

Have you prepared yourself mentally to start; develop and succeed in your Direct Sales – Network Marketing business? This is a crucial step in getting your business ready. What is your belief level right now? How far have you come with your dream book and your vision? Have those tools ready to assist you once you get started.

You will have some challenging days in this business. You will have days when you are ready to throw in the towel because someone said something to you that you allowed to hurt your feelings.

If you are mentally prepared to deal with these challenges before they occur, you will breeze right through.

I’m going to tell you a few facts right now -

1. In the beginning, you will be extremely underpaid in your business. You may do the math after the first month and find that you only earned 20 cents an hour. You may do the math the second month and find that you only earned 40 cents an hour. But, three years into your business, you may also find that you earned $100, $200, $300 an hour or more. Will you “stick and stay until you get your pay?”

2. In the beginning, it will seem like you are pouring money into your business with nothing much coming back. You will wonder if it’s worth it. I know people who have gone $20,000-50,000 in debt, developing their multi-million dollar businesses. I know that they had many days of self-doubt and fear that they were making a mistake. Today, they would assure you that it was the right move. They were able to do this because they had a strong belief, vision and commitment to what they wanted in their lives. Do you?

3. If someone has led you to believe that you can replace a fulltime income in a few months, or that you will be a six figure income earner at the end of year one, you may be in for an unhappy surprise. Can these things be done? Yes. Is it the norm? Absolutely not. It takes time, a business budget and consistency to make it happen. You will get there, but it may take two years instead of one. Still, how great is that?

4. There are going to be some people that you care about who will not support you in your business and may even laugh at you. That’s okay. This is not about you. This is some insecurity in them and has nothing to do with you. As difficult as it may seem, do not take it personally. Let that inspire you to move closer to the top and ultimately reach the top.

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my former neighbor. She was the one who looked at me like I had horns growing out of my head and was the stupidest person on the planet. She told me I was crazy. After I got over being hurt and mad, I let that experience push me and drive me to success. She is my former neighbor because I ultimately moved onward and upward from that neighborhood, and found other neighbors and friends. Don’t let anyone squeeze your excitement and enthusiasm.

Begin right now to see your business as your full time profession and a part of your every day lifestyle.

Prepare your “elevator speech” and rehearse it to perfection. Then, when someone asks you what you do, don’t tell them you are an Administrative Assistant or whatever. Tell them you are “a small business owner, marketing…….”

Practice will make perfect at this. Let your business really integrate into your life.

Let your business become part of who you are.

How is your business growing? Are you aware of what a remarkable
gift you have in your hands with your business? You are virtually
unstoppable if you will just choose to be and take action.

This week, and in the weeks that follow, ponder these 5 important
points. Be accountable to these principles yourself and watch your
business soar.

1. This is a business of duplication and people will duplicate
what they see and not what you say. Sound Familiar? So, if you want
to build a giant team, you must be in the trenches, sponsoring and
bringing in new team members. If you want to create a higher group
volume, create a higher personal volume yourself and share the
stories and inspire. Do it first yourself, and others will follow.

2. Attitude determines your altitude. You can’t soar with eagles
with your thoughts in the gutter. Your level of success is
dependent on a positive attitude. Every morning when you wake up,
you have a choice in how to look at the day and how to look at all
areas of your life. Choose to see the positive and it will lift
your spirits and your success.

3. Excellence is a HABIT! Develop it. Develop this winning habit
and begin to see and expect excellence in everything. You will get
what you expect!

4. New people are the lifeblood of your business. Get out of
management mode and stay in sharing, sponsoring and training mode.
Keep sifting and sorting! Your example shows that finan cial freedom
is attained by continuing to build.

5. Plug in and Power Up! Develop strong relationships with those
in your upline; the company and your downline. Be the one to make
the call. A great upline leader can make a huge difference in your
level of success. Reach out when you are struggling and you are
sure to get some fresh ideas. You’ll also quickly learn that your
upline has most likely been there!

Success is just around the corner for you. Write down your weekly
intentions and goals and get after it!
