Gen Y Millennials- the Most Entrepreneurial Generation Ever
.
I love and am fascinated by this generation.
They shun the “baby boomer” ways that their parents preach…
Go to school…
Get a good education…
Get a good, “secure” job….
And, then live a life of stress, worried about layoffs, downsizing, and strife…
To retire on a portion of what you couldn’t live on before…
Okay, it’s not always that bad, exactly.
And, I really don’t believe that going to school is bad…
But, let’s face it – job prospects these days for new college graduates are scarce. Gone are some of the traditional ways of work.
Generation Y is more aware than ever of how flawed the “boomer way” of doing things is. They can see it manifested in the results that their parents are producing. They are beginning to seriously question the “System.”
Generation Y is Hungry: More and more are seeking alternatives to the flawed “System” that they see!
Generation Y is Entrepreneurial:Their mindset is different; their shopping habits are different; their outlook is different!
Article on Generation Y and Bucking Tradition
And, this generation does not want to spend time stuffed into a suit; stuffed into a cubicle; and stuffed into someone else’s idea of when to come to work, when to go home, when to take a vacation, when to go to lunch, and so on…
Makes me feel a little uptight thinking about it, too.
I have listened to countless interviews lately of
Generation Y Success Stories
Many of whom started school and dropped out after a year; struggled with menial jobs like delivering pizza, working at Starbucks, all the while spending hours online getting their own education about starting a business…mostly online.
Mary Kay Cosmetics reported recently that 36% of their new consultants are college women, who don’t want a traditional job! They want independence! Awesome news for direct sales and network marketing!
4 Reasons why Network Marketing is a Great Fit for Gen Y
1. Have you checked the job market lately? It ain’t what it once was.
College kids today are graduating with a pile of student debt, bleak job outlook, and many are forced to move home, and get a low paying job that is unfulfilling and not enough to support themselves on.
2. They think outside the box.
With Network Marketing, they can choose to build a business asset of their own, and not fit themselves into a corporate culture that doesn’t vcalue them, or offer them security. They can sleep til noon, and then put in the time it takes to grow a successful business, and be ready for happy hour!
3. Gen Y is Tech Savvy and Network Marketing is well wired.
It’s fairly safe to say that Gen Y is tech savvy. They cut their teeth on “gadgets” and they prefer to text rather than talk. (Can drive a parent crazy!) When “life” happens they immediately think “Instagram shot” and the perfect caption! Today, with Apps and mobile ready sites, a business on the go is a reality!
5. They love community, hanging out, having fun!
Gen Y loves a good party and building a Network Marketing business with one’s friends is a blast! Corporate America is so “yesterday!” Keep the business light, fun, no stuffy hotel meetings of the past, and build a huge team!
Here’s a tip though – understated is much better with them. Stay hype free! Here is a great Forbes Article on Marketing to Millennials!
They aren’t so much driven by money as lifestyle!
Time Freedom…..
Job Freedom……
Boss Freedom….
Sounds like a great life, eh?
Here is the thing – this kind of life is open to anyone who is not afraid of a little risk…
Not afraid to spend a little time, and a little money to break free…
Does that sound like you….
Do you have a business you love; one that will take you where you want to go? AWESOME! Work it hard and know what you are selling.
If you are still looking for that right business and right mentor, someone who has “been there, done that” and built the million dollar income, I would love to explore that possibility with you.

As a former MK Independent Sales Director-now turned teacher of entrepreneurship for a unique high school program-I can vouch for this article as being completely true! These young people desire the “free” lifestyle and I can’t blame them! I love when I get to the direct-selling part of our curriculum, and always talk about what it takes to be self-employed.
