<p>Here are a few key tips for avoiding the &#8220;guilties&#8221; as best you can!</p>
<p>First, don&#8217;t compare yourself to anyone else; get your kids involved; create a &#8220;healthy to do list&#8221; and know that &#8220;this too shall pass&#8221; and you can build a successful business!</p>
<p>Here are some other tips and ideas for you; these are things that &#8220;got me through&#8221; and I managed to come out on the other side with two amazing teenagers who I have a great relationship with; as well as a thriving business.</p>

<p>The answer is none of those things. In fact, it is something so small that it may shock you. And it&#8217;s something that you can easily begin to do; and , just as easily not begin to do.</p>
<p>It starts with your philosophy. Have you given much thought to your philosophy? Your philosophy is how you think; how you reason about certain things; it&#8217;s what you know and how you apply it to what you do.</p>
<p>A positive philosophy is going to inspire you to make positive steps each day toward your goals. A negative philosophy is going to allow you to talk yourself out of taking those steps.</p>
<p>And, it is the small, daily action steps; compounded over time that create what you are looking for in life. Think about it – this is true in every area of your life.</p>
<p>Want to lose weight? It means choosing the salad over the cheeseburger, more often than not; it means walking for 30 minutes a day instead of hanging on the couch; it means being aware of the choices you make and choosing wisely.</p>
<p>Want to build your business? It means making those 2 calls a day to prospects, even when you don&#8217;t want to; it&#8217;s about attending your company&#8217;s regional or national event, even if you go by yourself; it&#8217;s about picking up that book and reading 10 inspiring pages each day.</p>
<p>Each of these things is so easy to do; <strong><em>and so easy not to do.</em></strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s not huge action steps that makes one more successful. It&#8217;s small, daily steps, compounded over time.</p>

<p>Great phone skills are important to your Direct Sales and Network Marketing Business and here is some good news &#8211; These skills can be developed.</p>
<p>Do you ever worry that you are stumbling over your words when you talk to someone on the phone about your business?</p>
<p>Do you ever listen to leaders on the business calls or the training calls and wonder how they are so smooth, polished and always seem to know exactly what to say?</p>
<p>This is a skill that can be DEVELOPED &#8211; isn&#8217;t that great news?</p>
<p>And, in our business, the telephone is your most important tool!</p>
<p>Here are some tips to assist you in developing your phone skills and learning to relax and have fun during the process!</p>
<p>Yes, it CAN be fun!</p>
<p>1. Have a separate phone line for your business and have a professional greeting on the answering machine. Kids are fun and cute, but not on your business line.</p>
<p>2. Put a smile on your face, and in your voice when you talk with people. Happiness and enthusiasm shines through!</p>
<p>3. Paint word pictures when you speak.</p>
<p>4. Ask for clarity if you are unsure what the person means by a question or statement they make.</p>
<p>5. Return calls promptly.</p>
<p>6. Listen and ask questions. Relax, you are NOT trying to sell ANYONE ANYTHING. Your goal is to share information and allow your prospect to sell him/herself! That creates a win-win. Pay very close attention to the language and words that you use and make sure your agenda is out of the way!</p>
<p>7. Be clear on your why and your purpose. Be solid in your belief and conviction.</p>
<p>8. Detach from the outcome. Don&#8217;t worry about what the other person says. There are TONS of people out there waiting for your call!</p>
<p>9. Have a 3 step process to lead your prospect through in looking at the business, or evaluating a retail sale or fundraiser. Always know what you are going to say and what the next step should be for your prospect.</p>
<p>10. Follow up and let people know you are interested in having them join you as a customer or team member!  Ask for referrals. Really &#8211; you never know!</p>
<p>Practice,practice, practice!</p>

<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">Chapter 20: The Competition</span></strong></p>
<p><em>[Joe] clicked off the phone, set it on his desk and stared at it, lost in disbelief at what he’d just done. “This guy just blows me off—and I give him a referral?” he muttered. “And throw some good business at a competitor?!” — from The Go-Giver</em></p>
<p>The chances are excellent that once you’re in a conversation about your particular field, at some point you’ll be confronted with the perfect opportunity to bash the competition. This is a character-revealing moment. In a few sentences, a few words—even a gesture or a look—you can cause the relationship to grow suddenly deeper and stronger, or deal it a fatal blow.</p>
<p>We are big believers in competition, but it’s important to remember why it exists and what it’s doing there. We live in a society that permits and encourages competition because of the value it contributes to the health of the whole. This is not some abstract economic theory. Good competition keeps you on your toes, raising the bar for what a business like yours can do. Good competition pushes and stretches the limits of what’s possible.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">In a very real sense, your competition is your best friend.</span></strong></p>
<p>But sometimes people get confused about this and think the correct goal is to destroy your competition. What a tragic error. If you could succeed in destroying all your competitors, you would be raining down destruction on your own field.</p>
<p>Happily, salespeople are often taught never to speak ill of their competition, and that doing so will only make them look bad. Unfortunately, most salespeople have been taught not to say anything good about their competition, either.</p>
<p>Whenever you’re speaking to a prospect and they bring up your competitor, go out of your way to say something nice about him or her. Because you’re a nice person? No. (Although we’re sure you are indeed a very nice person). Because when you compliment your competitor, you are also demonstrating respect—and respect earns respect.</p>
<p>If in a conversation you tear down your competitor, it actually diminishes you in the other person’s eyes. On the other hand, when you take care to say something positive about your competition, it actually builds you up in their eyes. These are the messages that register for the other person, consciously or not:</p>
<p>You are confident. Knocking the competition is one way people often try to act confident. Ironically, it telegraphs precisely the opposite message. But if you not only refrain from speaking ill of your competitors but actually speak highly of them, then you must be genuinely confident. And confidence breeds confidence.</p>
<p>You are successful. If you are genuinely confident, then it stands to reason you must also be successful. After all, unsuccessful people don’t have that sort of genuine confidence in themselves.</p>
<p>You are safe. If you speak that highly of your competition, then this person knows they’ll never have to worry about what you say about them behind their back.</p>
<p>John tells a story about shopping for a car that shows how that difference in attitude—bashing versus respect, bravado versus genuine confidence—cost one dealer tens of thousands of dollars and earned it for another. He set out to visit three different import dealers with the goal of comparing both their cars and the experiences he had in each place. Here’s what happened:</p>
<p>First was the local BMW man, Mike.</p>
<p>I’d been there a few times, checking out a few cars on the floor, and Mike remembered me vaguely. He took my kids and me for a test spin, and on our drive we made small talk. I left the lot sort of liking Mike, but feeling I hadn’t learned much about the car or gotten much value.</p>
<p>Next was Lexus.</p>
<p>The nearest Lexus dealer was a good ninety minutes away, and I was too busy to go that distance. No problem. Tink Doyle from Lexus returned my call immediately and said she could bring cars out for me to look at. What was I looking for in a car, she asked (hmm, Mike had not asked me that), and what else was I looking at? I told her: BMW, Lexus, Mercedes. “All three are great cars,” she replied. “I have to admit, I personally love the Lexus line. Well, obviously—that’s why I work here. But BMW and Mercedes are excellent cars, too. You’ll do well either way.” She offered to bring a car out for me to look at. The next day, she brought another. And then another. For the next week, Tink made sure I didn’t pass a day without a Lexus to drive.</p>
<p>Finally, I got to Mercedes.</p>
<p>Like Tink, Ed at Mercedes wanted to know what else I was test-driving. When I said, “BMW—” he grunted. When I said “. . . and Lexus,” he let out a snort of derision. “Not much of a car, really,” Ed let me know, and he launched into a lecture about how many ways the Lexus was not what I wanted: it was basically a Camry body with an inflated price tag; I wouldn’t be happy with a dealer so far away; he’d heard its airbag might not be safe . . . .</p>
<p>By the time I left the Mercedes dealership, Ed had made the sale: <strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">I got the Lexus.</span> </strong></p>
<p>Of course, there were features about the cars themselves that helped direct John’s buying decision. But it was the attitudes of the three salespeople that clinched the deal.</p>
<p>When you tear down another, you are the one on whom it reflects most poorly. And when you take the high road and build up your competition, you create a rising tide that raises all the ships in the harbor—and that reflects quite well on you.</p>

<p>It has been said that your success in this business is directly related to your willingness to read, study, change and grow. I know that this is true. It certainly happened for me.</p>
<p>Something I learned early on was to listen to those who had attained a level I desired. Follow the guidelines laid out by those who have achieved what you want.</p>
<p>Feed your mind, feed your mind, feed your mind.</p>
<p>There are generic tele-conference calls held every night of the week on the subject of building a successful Network Marketing business. Get on as many of these as you possibly can until you are solid as a rock in your commitment to your business.</p>
<p>I talk to everyone I can in this business. I interview top income earners as much as possible and I always ask for their five-minute tips to the top!</p>
<p>Once I find a common theme, I know there&#8217;s something to it and I adopt it. The funny thing is that the themes are pretty common from most successful networkers.</p>
<p><strong>1. Make a commitment<br />
2. Determine your “why.”<br />
3. Develop your story.<br />
4. Share your story as many times a day as possible.<br />
5. Work with the willing.<br />
6. Never stop growing your business and your front line.</strong></p>
<p>That’s pretty much it. How simple can it get?</p>
<p>Be willing to be bad, on your way to being good, as you move on up to being great at sharing your story. We all stuttered and faltered along the way. Nothing makes you better than practice. Practice in the mirror, in the closet, to your children, to your dog, or anyone who will listen. Record yourself.</p>
<p>Reading books, listening to tapes and working hard on you is one of those &#8220;secrets.&#8221;</p>
<p>Spend 30 minutes each day reading or listening to something about Network Marketing, Entrepreneurship, personal growth, etc. Fill your mind with positive input. Turn your car into a moving library.</p>
<p>Begin to develop a personal library of books on these topics, and read them over and over again. You will learn a great deal through osmosis! When your birthday, or other holidays come around, ask for these types of items for gifts. You don’t need another sweater, but another belief building book may make the difference.</p>
<p>Anytime you feel your belief slipping, or your frustrations mounting, plug in an upbeat tape of another person&#8217;s success story in Network Marketing! Or, jump on a conference call. Even listening to the opportunity call offered by your company can build that excitement level right back up. These are the things that will see you through.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">In other words, when you are clear on the &#8220;why&#8221;, the &#8220;how&#8221; becomes clear; and you will be much more compelled to take the action steps needed to be a success.</p>
<p>But how many of us really have taken the time to do some goal setting and write down that why?</p>
<p>Most likely, one of the first &#8220;homework assignments&#8221; you received in your &#8220;48 hour&#8221; training was to write down your goals, right? Did you do it?</p>
<p>Here are some stats, where do you fall?</p>
<p>It&#8217;s been researched and determined that only 3% of all people write down their goals and this 3% is more successful than those who don&#8217;t. You might be aware of the study done on a Harvard University class which found that only 3% of that class had written down their goals for the future. Twenty years later that 3% controlled over 97% of the entire wealth earned by the surviving members of that class!</p>
<p> So, if you understand that this is an important step to your success, why haven&#8217;t you done it?</p>
<p>Have you been too focused on the &#8220;how&#8221; first? Without the &#8220;why&#8221; being crystal clear, success with the rest will allude you. Here is some insight into developing your why –</p>

<p><em><strong>Have you prepared yourself mentally to start; develop and succeed in your Direct Sales – Network Marketing business? This is a crucial step in getting your business ready. What is your belief level right now? How far have you come with your dream book and your vision?  Have those tools ready to assist you once you get started.</strong></em></p>
<p>You will have some challenging days in this business. You will have days when you are ready to throw in the towel because someone said something to you that you allowed to hurt your feelings.</p>
<p>If you are mentally prepared to deal with these challenges before they occur, you will breeze right through.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m going to tell you a few facts right now -</p>
<p>1.	<strong>In the beginning, you will be extremely underpaid in your business</strong>. You may do the math after the first month and find that you only earned 20 cents an hour. You may do the math the second month and find that you only earned 40 cents an hour. But, three years into your business, you may also find that you earned $100, $200, $300 an hour or more. Will you &#8220;stick and stay until you get your pay?&#8221;</p>
<p>2.	<strong>In the beginning, it will seem like you are pouring money into your business with nothing much coming back.</strong> You will wonder if it&#8217;s worth it. I know people who have gone $20,000-50,000 in debt, developing their multi-million dollar businesses. I know that they had many days of self-doubt and fear that they were making a mistake. Today, they would assure you that it was the right move. They were able to do this because they had a strong belief, vision and commitment to what they wanted in their lives. Do you?</p>
<p>3.	<strong>If someone has led you to believe that you can replace a fulltime income in a few months, or that you will be a six figure income earner at the end of year one, you may be in for an unhappy surprise</strong>. Can these things be done? Yes. Is it the norm? Absolutely not. It takes time, a business budget and consistency to make it happen. You will get there, but it may take two years instead of one. Still, how great is that? </p>
<p>4.	<strong>There are going to be some people that you care about who will not support you in your business and may even laugh at you</strong>. That’s okay. This is not about you. This is some insecurity in them and has nothing to do with you. As difficult as it may seem, do not take it personally. Let that inspire you to move closer to the top and ultimately reach the top. </p>
<p>I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my former neighbor. She was the one who looked at me like I had horns growing out of my head and was the stupidest person on the planet. She told me I was crazy. After I got over being hurt and mad, I let that experience push me and drive me to success. She is my former neighbor because I ultimately moved onward and upward from that neighborhood, and found other neighbors and friends. Don’t let anyone squeeze your excitement and enthusiasm.</p>
<p>Begin right now to see your business as your full time profession and a part of your every day lifestyle. </p>
<p>Prepare your &#8220;elevator speech&#8221; and rehearse it to perfection. Then, when someone asks you what you do, don&#8217;t tell them you are an Administrative Assistant or whatever. Tell them you are &#8220;a small business owner, marketing…….&#8221;</p>
<p>Practice will make perfect at this. Let your business really integrate into your life.</p>
<p>Let your business become part of who you are.</p>

<p>I want to spend a few moments really exploring the concept of focus and staying tuned into where you are focused at all times.</p>
<p><em><strong>When we are at a point in our lives where we are not happy, not content and feel that we are lacking in one or many areas, it is imperative that we begin to shifts those thoughts.</strong></em></p>
<p>Yes, it can be challenging to do in the beginning, but most things are. If you set a goal to lose weight, the first few weeks of a new diet, new workout schedule, etc., are the most brutal. Wouldn’t you agree?</p>
<p>It’s well documented that it takes about 21 days, or three weeks, to form a habit, or even change a habit.</p>
<p>Changing your thoughts and feelings of lack to thoughts and feelings of abundance is the best habit you can develop in your life! Truly, it will positively affect every aspect of your life. (I’m living proof!)</p>
<p>One quick little idea that worked wonders for me was to develop a system where I would catch myself when I was thinking negatively about anything.</p>
<p>First, I put little post-it notes all over that just said <em><strong>“Where are you focused?”</strong></em></p>
<p>It didn’t seem to matter what I was doing, I would see those things many times throughout each hour and that would be my reminder to check in on my thoughts and feelings.</p>
<p>In the beginning, it was amazing to me how many times I would catch myself “drowning in my sorrows” and having a pity party. And, I consider myself to be a positive person!</p>
<p>Yikes! It was scary! No wonder I was not moving forward at a faster pace toward my ultimate vision.</p>
<p><em><strong>My current vision (or reality) was a mess with negativity.</strong></em> Sound familiar?</p>
<p>I borrowed one of my daughter fancy pony tail holders. It was a pretty, pink rubber band type of hair holder that had beads and trinkets on it. I began to wear that on my wrist, like a bracelet.</p>
<p>I did this so it did not look so funny wearing a regular rubber band! I didn&#8217;t want people asking me why I was wearing it because it was a personal thing that I did not want to explain.</p>
<p>Anytime I would catch myself thinking in any way other than the way I wanted to be thinking, I would <strong>snap that hair holder on my wrist</strong>. I would just give it a good pop to get my attention.</p>
<p>After a while, just wearing the band prompted me to be very aware of my thoughts and focus on quality, exciting, positive thoughts about my destiny and vision. I would see it and do a &#8220;thought and feeling&#8221; check.</p>
<p>Now, checking in regularly with my thoughts and feelings is just part of day to day life. The band is gone from around my wrist, and my vision is taking shape each and every day.</p>
<p>If I do find myself falling back into the old ways, I put that band back on and it doesn’t take any time at all until I am jumping out of my seat with excitement and positive feelings.</p>
<p>And, when I find that things aren’t cruising happily along, if I stop and <strong>check my “feelings” meter</strong>, I always find that I am having resistance, negative type thinking of some sort. Once I get that in check, things pick back up again!</p>
<p>Remember this – <em><strong>success is a journey</strong></em>. Often, we think that we will be happy when we get to that place we desire. Not so!</p>
<p>The trick is to be happy on your way there and know every step of the way that what you desire is on its way to you.</p>
<p>It is important to <em><strong>be</strong></em> first. Then you <em><strong>do</strong></em>, and <em><strong>have</strong></em>.</p>
<p>You are the master of your own destiny. And, you must take charge from the very beginning of the journey.</p>

<p>Your vision is the picture that you have of yourself, your life and your future.</p>
<p>Whether you like it or not, it is also what you are living right now. Whatever is your dominate focus in your life is creating your reality.</p>
<p>If you are experiencing lack in your life, check your focus. You will find that you are spending most of your time focused on what you are lacking. You can turn this around by focusing only on what you desire.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s impossible to have vision and worry at the same time. If worry is holding you back, you must replace that worry with vision.</p>
<p>Did you know that your mind does not distinguish between what is real and what is imagined?</p>
<p>Have you ever had a dream, and upon awakening, it was still so real and vivid in your mind that your heart was racing, or your emotions were charged?</p>
<p>So, what if you could fool your mind into creating your perfect life?</p>
<p>You can change the entire direction of your life by replacing worry with vision. And, it all starts with writing your vision down.</p>
<p>Take a clear look at your past. How much of it has been dictated by worry, fears, false assumptions, and a scarcity mentality?</p>
<p>Most people put their focus on what they lack, instead of clearly visualizing what they want.</p>
<p>The more time you spend in &#8220;feeling&#8221; anticipation for something great about to happen in your life, the quicker your life will change, and begin to look more like the life you desire!</p>
<p>Begin to write the vision of your perfect life, in addition to your dream book.</p>
<p>Ask and answer these questions while you do this &#8211; </p>
<p>If time and money was not an obstacle….</p>
<p>Where would I live?<br />
What would my house be like?<br />
What kind of car would I drive?<br />
What would my family be like?<br />
What type of trips would we take?<br />
What type of charities would I donate to?<br />
How would I spend a typical day?<br />
What type of work would I do?<br />
How would my health be?<br />
What types of food would I eat?<br />
What would be my greatest accomplishment?<br />
What words would be spoken about me by others?<br />
What would my funeral be like?</p>
<p>Now, the funeral part may seem a little morbid, I realize.  But, when you think about it, your funeral really sums up the life you lived.  How do you want yours summed up?</p>
<p>Have fun with this task and get VERY creative and dream VERY big.  After all, life is known to give you what you ask for.  You don&#8217;t want to discover you asked for the wrong things!  It&#8217;s like going through the drive through &#8211; you better check your order before you drive off!</p>
<p>Get your vision VERY clear in your head.  Write out your &#8220;perfect day&#8221;, answering the above questions.  Make several copies of it.  Keep one on your nightstand and read it each morning and last thing before you fall asleep.  Your subconscious works while you sleep. Keep one in your day timer and one at your desk.</p>
<p>Your Vision is far more powerful than your goals, and will lead you to and through your goals.  That is why you must have a very clear, precise vision and stay very close to it.</p>

<p>I remember my whole outlook changing dramatically when I read <a href="http://www.RichardBrooke.com" target="_blank">Richard Brooke&#8217;s &#8220;Mach II With Your Hair on Fire.&#8221; </a>My hair might as well have been on fire because my mind made such a dramatic shift that I felt as if I was burning up! </p>
<p>It transformed everything. I knew this held the secret to my success. The exercises are simple. Concentrate on what you WANT to achieve and not what you don&#8217;t want. Close your eyes and mentally &#8220;see&#8221; the picture of what you want in your mind. See yourself in that picture and &#8220;feel&#8221; what it will feel like when you achieve it.</p>
<p>Practice this exercise 3-5 times daily and watch the shifts that occur.</p>
<p><strong><em>This is essentially the Law of Attraction.</em></strong></p>
<p>Like seeks like and positive energy seeks positive energy. Likewise for negative energy.</p>
<p>Think about your current situation. Are you happy or unhappy? Are you excited or frustrated? Are you focused only on the end result you seek or are you counting the white stripes on the road as they pass slowly by?</p>
<p>To attract what you want, shift your focus. I know, I know. It&#8217;s not always easy, but there are some tools that can assist you.</p>
<p>A few years back, I decided to become THE master of my thoughts and feelings. <strong><span style="color: #008080;">One tool I used was a fancy pony tail holder of my daughter&#8217;s. It almost looks like a bracelet and I would wear it on my wrist.</span></strong> When I would catch myself thinking negatively, I would pop the band and snap my wrist. Ouch!</p>
<p>Before long, just looking at that evil band on my wrist would immediately put me into focused, positive mode and I would feel the difference in my energy level and my attitude.</p>
<p>I learned to use this tool to increase my awareness and &#8220;Attractor Factor&#8221; when I would sit down to call leads. I practiced and learned how to speak from the passion in my heart about my business to others. I mastered the skill of letting go of my attachments to anyone else&#8217;s opinions about what I was doing.</p>
<p>What happened in my life is amazing. Positive outcomes began to show up consistently. I began to EXPECT the Success that I dreamed about, and guess what? It showed up!</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #008080;">I discovered the &#8220;secret handshake&#8221; of Network Marketing &#8211; my own thoughts and beliefs!</span></strong> When my belief is strong and my thoughts are positive, I attract exactly what I want into the business. Simple as that &#8211; be aware of and determine my thoughts and also determine my outcomes.</p>
<p>Some people are fearful when they first hear &#8220;Law of Attraction&#8221; and the thought of each one of us being in control of our own destiny and outcome. Maybe it seems too &#8220;Woo-woo&#8221; or out there. I personally view it as very empowering, very spiritual experience. It&#8217;s those times of quiet meditation when I am focused on simply being joyful and expecting the greatness of this world to show up on my doorstep that I have the deepest spiritual connection.</p>
<p>Author Paul Zane Pilzer wrote a fascinating book a few years back titled &#8220;God Wants You to Be Rich.&#8221; I encourage anyone struggling with the concept of wealth and the power of the mind to read this book and get inspired!</p>
<p>Dr. Wayne Dyer summed it up exceptionally well in the opening sentence to his book &#8220;Manifest Your Destiny.&#8221; He writes &#8220;You have the power within you to attract to yourself all that you could ever want.&#8221;</p>
<p>So, I ask you &#8211; What are you attracting to your life right now? Is it what you want? Is it what you dream of?</p>
<p>Make the decision right now to begin attracting only those things that are positive, empowering and what your dreams are made of. The choice is yours &#8211; choose to attract abundance in everything!</p>
